Taylor Glover hit .632 and Sierra Hyland tossed a pair of shutouts as the CSUN and Cal Poly standouts were tabbed with softball weekly honors.

Glover Leads Matador Offense at DeMarini Desert Classic

CSUN junior Taylor Glover (Los Angeles, Calif./Mira Costa HS) exhausted opposing pitching at the DeMarini Desert Classic, helping the Matadors to a 3-2 record and garnering Big West Softball Field Player of the Week kudos.

The outfielder had 11 hits in 18 at-bats for a .632 average in the Las Vegas-based tournament.  Glover posted three multi-hit games and two multi-RBI games.  She finished with eight RBI’s, six runs, one double, one home run and one stolen base to pace the CSUN offense, which totaled 46 runs over the five contests.

Glover opened the tourney going 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in a 9-8 loss to Weber State.  She drove in three runs in a 16-12 nightcap win over Portland State to conclude day one of the DeMarini.

She began day two with a 4-for-4 performance in a 9-3 victory over Wichita State.  The four hits tied a career-high for the third time.  Glover had a double and two RBI against the Shockers.

She reeled off three more hits against Colorado State and concluded the tourney with another hit and run in a 9-2 triumph versus Utah State.  Glover had at least one hit and one RBI in all five games.

Hyland Hurls Four-Hit Shutout Against No. 9 Arizona

Cal Poly junior Sierra Hyland (Visalia, Calif./El Diamante HS) highlighted her performance at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a four-hit shutout against No. 9 Arizona, picking up Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week accolades.

The right-hander struck out nine Wildcats and walked just two in the 2-0 victory.  She also drove home the game-winning run in the tournament finale to send the Mustangs home with a 3-2 record.

Hyland, who appeared in all five games, including two in relief, also registered a five-hit shutout in the tourney opener as she blanked Central Michigan, 7-0.  Hyland fanned nine in that game as well.

For the week, she struck out 30 hitters against just six walks and posted a 1.64 earned run average.  She had four whiffs and allowed just an unearned run in 2.2 innings of relief work against nationally ranked UCLA.
