The 2013 Big Sky Champion Idaho State softball team is hosting its annual youth skills camp Saturday, Sept. 28 at Miller Ranch Stadium.
The Camp will be divided into three separate sections: hitting, slappers camp, and pitching.
The hitting section of the camp will start at 9 a.m. Players will learn fundamentals and work on drills that will improve batting averages. Campers will also dissect the mentality of hitting and how to control their at-bats. The cost for this section of the camp is $40.
At 11:30 the camp will move to a clinic on “slapping.” The slap is a strategic hit similar to a bunt that can be very effective if used correctly. Campers will learn the fundamentals of the drag bunt and the soft and hard slap. Approach and mentality is very important to the slapper and will be stressed at this camp.
The cost for this section of the camp is $20, but if players attend the hitting section of the camp they will receive a $5 discount.
Participants will need their own bat, helmet and batting gloves for both the hitting and slapping sections of the camp.
The pitching camp will start at 1 p.m. New Bengal assistant coach and Team USA member Jessica Moore will guide the pitching portion of the day.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn solid fundamentals with pitching mechanics, how to gain speed through power workouts and a great mentality for success.
The cost for attendance will be $40 and participants will need a glove and their own catcher.
