NO. 52 / VIRIGINA UNITY 18U

“The Virginia Unity was started in July 2014 with one 18U team and the focus was to offer central Virginia athletes a place to play with the goal of getting as many as possible the opportunity to play at the next level,” said organizational founder, Josh Johnson. “Over the past few years we have worked very hard to add age groups at each level. We have been honored to win large titles at each age group, but our greatest accomplishment came in the summer of 2017 when we competed in the USA/ASA Gold 18U National Championship in Clearwater Florida and was crowned NATIONAL CHAMPS! The 2017 National Championship team was led by a strong pitching staff comprised of Alyssa Bilodeau (Jacksonville University), Odicci Alexander (James Madison University) & Mallory Radcliff (Mt. Olive University). With majority of the 2017 roster graduating and moving onto the college the 2018 Roster returned 5 players from the 2017 Championship team. We set out in the 2018 season knowing this roster had big shoes to fill. The team was led by Kelsey Brown (James Madison University), Lexi Lomax (James Madison University), Janae Lyles (Hampton University) & Reed Butler (James Madison University). The fall and summer season pitching duties were placed on 2 roster adds from our 16U team (both being 16U eligible for the 2018 season but making the move to the 18U team) Kyleigh Richardson (Georgia Southern University) & Alexi Benson (Mercy College). The roster was rounded out with the addition of Elizabeth Waln (James Madison University) and 4 players from our 16U program. With a fall and summer schedule packed with the best of the best we were up for the challenge.”

The Unity played a strong summer of competition highlighted by an 8th place finish at the JO Cup. This organization is growing, expanding, and making a strong name for itself.

“The 2019 team is currently being led by Reed Butler (James Madison University/member of the 2017 National Championship team), Jessica Ford (James Madison University), Camm Buzzell (Florida Tech) and the returning pitching staff (Kyleigh Richardson & Alexi Benson). We are excited that our current roster includes 7 players who will be signing their national level of intent this fall and we are looking forward to seeing each of them work towards being impact players at the college level next fall. We are looking forward to strong challenging summer schedule and are putting in the time and effort to be successful. Unity teams to keep an eye on are our 16U Linder, our 12U Johnson. Both have competed and hold titles at the National level.”
