SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today (May 4) the bracket for the league’s 2014 Softball Championship.  Tournament action will get underway Wednesday morning at the UNCG Softball Stadium in Greensboro, N.C.

Georgia Southern earned the top seed in the tournament after finishing the regular season 33-19 overall and 15-6 in SoCon play to earn its third SoCon regular season title in school history. The Eagles are the two-time defending SoCon tournament champions after defeating UNCG 1-0 on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning last year.

The 21st annual SoCon Championship is set to start Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., as No. 2 seed Chattanooga (30-19, 13-7 SoCon) will play No. 7 Appalachian State (19-30, 7-13 SoCon). Game two will feature No. 3 Furman (28-24, 12-8 SoCon) battling No. 6 Western Carolina (18-32, 8-13 SoCon) at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Georgia Southern will play No. 8 Elon (24-27-1, 6-15 SoCon) at 3 p.m. in game three, while Wednesday’s final game will feature No. 4 Samford (36-16, 11-9 SoCon) and fifth-seeded UNCG (27-24, 10-11 SoCon), with play set to begin at approximately 5:30 p.m.

The championship is a double-elimination tournament, culminating in a winner-take-all championship game on Saturday. All game times are Eastern Standard and subject to change.  The winner of the Softball Championship will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA regional softball tournament.

Tickets will be available for purchase on site.  All-session adult passes will be available for $30 while all-session youth passes will cost $15.  Single session passes will also be available for purchase and will cost $5 for adults and $3 for youths.
