The Towson Tigers are one of best offenses in the country that you may not be aware of. The Tigers rank in the top five in Batting Avg (3rd, 345), Runs scored (5th, 6.81), slugging percentage (5th, .531) and On-Base percentage (4th, .431). One of the players that leads the explosive Tigers offense is senior Kendyl Scott.

Scott ranks 2nd in NCAA in batting average (.497), hits (84), and total bases (137). Scott also plays for the Great Britain National team who finished 3rd in the European World Championships last summer. Scott and Team Great Britain will be looking to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo this summer when they compete at the World Championships in Japan.

As we enter the final weekend of the regular season and senior weekend, we get to know about Kendyl Scott, a girl from La Quinta, California and how she ended up going to school at Towson in our latest edition of ” 7 Innings”.

Eric Lopez (ELO): What Influenced you to play Softball?

Scott: “My dad. He put a glove on my hand as soon as I could stand on my own two feet. So I was destined to grow up and play softball.”

ELO:  What was it about Towson that made you decide to move from La Quinta California to play softball at Towson?

Scott: “I loved the school. The campus was beautiful, and the team/coaches were very welcoming. Even when I was just a recruit, they girls on the team who were there, made me feel so comfortable and I knew automatically that I could see myself at Towson. It is a long way from home, but I wanted adventure. I wanted to experience the east coast, and I am so glad I made that decision.”

ELO: You’re a Lakers and Angels fan. Who is your favorite athlete and why? Also, do you want the Lakers to get LeBron James this summer, or do you prefer the Lakers go after someone else and build around Lonzo Ball?

Scott: “Mike Trout is one of my favorite athletes because he is a stud centerfielder and I think LeBron would be a great addition to the Lakers.”

ELO: What has it been like playing for Head Coach Lisa Costello and what will you take from Costello if you go into coaching?

Scott: “I have enjoyed playing for Coach Costello. She has shown me that she wants the very best for Towson softball and will do anything she can to make that possible. She has helped mold me into the ballplayer/person I am today, and I am very thankful for that. I do plan on going into coaching, so I have a lot to take with me from Coach Costello.”

ELO:  What has it been like playing with Brook Miko and this offense that is setting school records and among nations leaders in many offense categories?

Scott: “It’s been a lot of fun. The offense is what drives this team, and playing with this team is so enjoyable. My teammates push so hard at practice and make things happen during games. Records are one thing, but being apart of this team, who comes out to fight hard and win every game is very special.”

ELO: You’re part of the Great Britain National Team. Tell us about the process of how you were able to be part of the National team, as well as being part of the team that finished 3rd at the European Championships last summer.

Scott: “My Father was born and raised in England, which is how I was able to be granted dual citizenship. I had to try out and ultimately made the team. I first played with them in Surrey, Canada in the World Championships, two summers ago and what an amazing experience that was. Last summer we earned the Bronze medal in the European Championships, which is sending us to Japan this summer to try and qualify for the 2020 Olympics.”

ELO:  Compare the softball culture in the United States to the softball culture in Europe?

Scott: “It’s different, but the same. At the end of the day, we are playing the same game. The love and passion for the game, which the National teams radiate, is what is so special.”

ELO: How do you want your senior class and yourself to be remembered years from now when they talk about your career at Towson?

Scott: “I want us to be remembered as some of the best people and players to have stepped foot on the field at Towson.”

Scott has helped lead Towson to a historic season with a program record 39 wins and counting, as the Tigers have a big conference series showdown with Hofstra at home this weekend.
