A-Sun Weekly Softball Awards go to Jacksonville’s Sanchez and Stetson’s Brandt

MACON, Ga. – Jacksonville’s Emily Sanchez and Stetson’s Courtney Brandt earned this week’s Atlantic Sun Softball weekly awards, announced by the league office on Monday.

Sanchez collects her first A-Sun Player of the Week honor after producing at the plate for the Dolphins in every game of the USA Invitational. Sanchez finished the weekend going 11-18 with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. She recorded multi-hit games in four of the five games played and slugged 1.056 for the weekend. She finished the week with a .611 batting average and an on-base percentage of .650. She also extended her hitting streak to eight games with a pair of hits against No. 22 South Alabama. Sanchez leads the Dolphins with a .381 batting average.

Brandt was outstanding in the circle for Stetson in earning her second career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week award. She tossed a no-hitter, the first for Stetson since May 9th, 2010, in a victory over Morgan State. She finished the weekend 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA after pitching 11 total innings. Brandt struck out a combined eight batters and did not allow a walk in either performance. She faced the minimum batters in her no-hitter. Stetson won all four games this past week against Morgan State.

– Only allowed one runner to reach as far as third base in both appearances combined
– Became the first Hatter pitched to throw a no-no since May 9th, 2010
