MACON, Ga. – After strong opening weekend performances, Jacksonville’s Danielle Baker and Stetson’s Brooke Hutto nabbed the first set of Atlantic Sun Softball weekly awards, announced Monday by the league office.

Baker led the way for Jacksonville at the plate to start the season, coming in clutch with timely homers to take down three teams at the River City Leadoff. Against 23rd ranked NC State, Baker came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh and sent a two-run bomb over the fence to tie the game with the Wolfpack, sending it into extra innings. The Dolphins went on to win, 8-7. Sunday against Coastal Carolina JU fell behind 3-0 after the first, but Baker responded quickly in the second with another home run to tie the game before the Dolphins ended up winning in walk-off fashion. Baker finished the weekend with a perfect slugging percentage and six RBIs on five hits.

Hutto began her career for the Hatters in shutout fashion, winning two games against Akron and Morgan State. The Auburndale, Fla. native became the first Stetson freshman to pitch a shutout in her debut appearance since 2006, and did so convincingly, holding her opponents to just 1-for-14 with runners on base. Hutto now boasts an ERA of 0.00 in two complete games, 8-0 vs. Akron and 3-0 vs. Morgan St. Stetson now sits at 4-1 after the first weekend of the year.
