MACON, Ga. – USC Upstate’s Cheyenne Griffin and Lipscomb’s Kelly Young secured their second Atlantic Sun Softball weekly awards, announced by the league office on Monday.

Griffin had a tremendous weekend leading the Spartans to a 4-0 week in the Winthrop Invitational. She finished the week hitting .700 with an on-base percentage of .615 as the senior collected hits in every game. Four of her seven total hits left the yard and she finished the week with nine RBI. She capped off the weekend accounting for the entire offense in a 3-0 victory over Harvard with two home runs and three RBI. Griffin also played solid defense committing only one error in 16 total chances at first base. It’s the second career award, and second this season, for the Moore, S.C. native.

Young was dominant in the circle at the Purple and Gold Challenge hosted by Lipscomb this past weekend. She pitched a five-hit shutout in the first game against Dayton on Saturday. Young walked one, and struck out a single-game and season-high 11 batters. On Sunday, Young came out of the bullpen to pick up her second win of the weekend as she pitched two scoreless innings. She struck out two more batters to finish the weekend with 13 combined strikeouts. Young ranks second in the A-Sun with 50 strikeouts at this point in the season.
