Atlantic Sun Softball Weekly Awards: Chambers and Brown

MACON, Ga. – Kara Chambers of Kennesaw State and Jacksonville’s Victoria Brown were honored today as this week’s Atlantic Sun Softball weekly award winners, announced by the league office on Monday.

Chambers guided the Owls to a 4-2 record last week, including going 4-1 in the Owl Invitational on her way to her first career A-Sun Player of the Week honor. The junior from Kennesaw, Ga. combined for seven hits, with four of those hits going for extra-bases. She had a triple, a double and two home runs. Chambers produced hits in five of the six games, including two multi-hit games. She scored seven runs while also proving tough to handle on the basepaths as she went 4-5 in stolen base attempts this week. She saved her best for the last two games of the weekend with a home run each against Indiana and Eastern Illinois. Her slugging percentage finished at .941 while her on-base percentage was .444.

Brown pitched outstanding for Jacksonville, going a perfect 3-0 in the Holy City Showdown in Charleston, S.C. In the tournament she pitched 22.0 innings and held an ERA of 0.41. Brown threw three complete games, including a four-hit shutouts against Loyola (Ill.). She combined for 13 strikeouts in 29.0 innings. Her final appearance came against Dartmouth, an NCAA Tournament team a year ago, and she went eight innings allowing only one earned run in the 4-2 victory for the Dolphins.

– Was a menace to opposing teams on the base paths, going 4-5 in stolen base attempts
– Both home runs came on the final day of the invitational against Big Ten foe Indiana and Eastern Illinois
