AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn swept its third doubleheader of the fall by defeating both Southern Union State (12-0) and Central Alabama Community College (15-1) Thursday night at Jane B. Moore Field.

In game one against Southern Union State, Auburn used solid pitching and defense as well as a trio of home runs to ultimately defeat the Bison, while the bats stayed hot in game two, racking up 10 hits against Central Alabama.

Branndi Melero, Kasey Cooper and Jenna Abbott each contributed three-run home runs in the first, fifth and seventh innings against Southern Union, respectively, to take care of much of the scoring for Auburn.

In the circle for the Tigers, right-hander Marcy Harper earned the start and pitched four hitless innings with two strikeouts and no walks before being relieved by left-hander Rachael Walters. The junior transfer contributed four scoreless innings of her own and it wasn’t until there were two outs in the sixth inning when Southern Union State recorded its first hit of the game.

In game two, Auburn scored five runs in the first inning against Central Alabama after Jade Rhodes hit a three-run home run following a costly error by the Trojans and jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings.

Central Alabama crossed the plate in the top of the fourth inning to cut the score to 8-1, but Auburn scored seven unanswered runs to ultimately win the game by the 14-run margin.

Left-hander Jenna Abbott got the start and allowed one run on four hits in her four innings of work. She was relieved by right-hander Lexi Davis, who made her third relief appearance of the fall and extended her scoreless-inning streak.

Offensively, Melero led the way for the Tigers as she ended the night with four hits, including two doubles and a single to go along with a home run.

With tonight’s two wins, Auburn improved to a perfect 6-0 this fall and has outscored its opponents 79-8.

The fourth and final round of fall doubleheaders is set for Friday, October 24 at Jane B. Moore Field. Game one against Northwest Florida State is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m. and will be followed by game two against Columbus State at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free to all fall games.
