THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – Christy Lisenby’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a two-run comeback win for No. 7 Baylor over No. 2 Oregon Saturday at Getterman Stadium. The Bears avenged Thursday’s loss to the Ducks with a 2-1 win Saturday and closed their portion of the Baylor Invitational with a 4-2 win over Abilene Christian in the nightcap.
Heather Stearns carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning vs. Oregon for Baylor, but a triple by Jenn Lilley and an RBI single from Janelle Lindvall gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh. However, Oregon ace Cheridan Hawkins walked Jordan Strickland before Ari Hawkins’ sac bunt resulted in a throwing error by the Ducks, and put runners on second and third.
Oregon elected to walk Shelby Friudenberg to load the bases before Cheridan Hawkins hit Sarah Smith with a pitch to tie the score at one apiece. Then, Lisenby delivered the winning hit on a 1-2 count with a single to centerfield to score Ari Hawkins for the game-winner, and the Bears handed the Ducks (14-1) their first loss of the season.
Baylor closed with a win over ACU highlighted by Shelby Friudenberg’s 3-run homer in the second and Sarah Beth Toben’s win in the circle in her first collegiate start. The Bears finished the Baylor Invitational with a 3-2 record. The Ducks were named winners of the tournament with a 4-1 record. The tournament closes Saturday with a 10 a.m. matchup between Abilene Christian and North Texas.
