CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty outfielder Jamie Crisp (Sterling, Va.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Softball Player of the Week, while Longwood’s Elizabeth McCarthy (Dunnsville, Va.) has been named The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played April 21-27, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Crisp batted .500 (9-for-18) with a 1.111 slugging percentage, nine RBI, seven runs scored, three home runs, three multi-hit games and two doubles last week against Virginia, East Tennessee State and Presbyterian. The junior started the week going 2-for-2 from the plate with a double and two runs scored against UVA. She added five RBI, three runs scored and two home runs on three hits in a 13-4 win over ETSU, and added another hit in game two of a doubleheader with the Buccaneers. Crisp registered three hits and a home run, while driving in four and scoring two runs to help the Lady Flames win 2-of-3 games against Presbyterian over the weekend. The award is her first Player of the Week accolade this season.
McCarthy went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 16 strikeouts, seven walks, two shutouts and two complete games last week for the Lancers. The freshman left-hander highlighted the week with a 1-0 victory over South Carolina. She registered 8.0 innings pitched, allowed two hits and struke out six batters. McCarthy added a complete game win over Virginia Tech, striking out five and giving up six hits in a 3-0 victory. Against Norfolk State, she threw 4.0 innings in relief with five strikeouts and two hits to earn the win. The honor is her second Pitcher of the Week nod this season.
