Boise State Softball Names Brittany Gaston Assistant Coach

BOISE, Idaho—Boise State University and head softball coach Erin Thorpe announced Monday, the hiring of Brittany Gaston as assistant coach. Gaston joins the Broncos after with experience on collegiate and high school staffs since finishing her playing career.

“We are very excited to welcome Brittany Gaston to the Bronco softball coaching staff,” said Thorpe. “Coach Gaston’s skill set will provide a great complement to what we have built here. Her experience will help us as we work hard to win a conference championship and a postseason berth.”

From 2010-12, Gaston spent two years as a graduate assistant with the Tennessee softball program. Her duties included serving as the video coordinator, working with outfielders and assisting with administrative practice and travel duties. During Gaston’s tenure, the Lady Vols went 101-26 including winning the 2011 SEC Tournament and advancing to the 2012 Women’s College World Series.

Most recently, Gaston was an assistant softball coach and special education teacher at West Ashley High School in Charleston, S.C. She has worked as an instructor at numerous camps and clinics since high school and has held coaching positions with high schools and travel teams since exhausting her NCAA eligibility.

Gaston was a four-year starter at Appalachian State, predominantly playing second base and right field. She twice earned All-Southern Conference Second Team accolades and finished her career ranked second in school history with 182 hits and third in batting average (.283) and runs batted in (89).

A native of Alpharetta, Ga., Gaston earned her master’s degree in sport management in May 2012, from the University of Tennessee. She has a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Appalachian State University, where she was a four-year member of the dean’s list and chancellor’s list.
