POCATELLO, Idaho – Bengal outfielder Kacie Burnett was named the Big Sky Softball Player of the Week for the games played Feb. 5-10, the conference announced Tuesday.

Burnett, a freshman from Napa, Calif., had 11 hits and scored nine runs to help Idaho State open the season 5-1 at the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah.

The 5-1 record ties the 1979, 1982, and 1983 teams for the best start in program history.

Burnett had a .611 batting average and filled an important role hitting at the No. 2 position ahead of Idaho State’s power lineup of Vicky Galasso, Terah Blackwell, Maddy Hickman and fellow freshman Dara Kolar.

Burnett walked three times and had an on base percentage and slugging percentage of .667.

In left field, Burnett had a 1.000 fielding percentage with six putouts and two assists. She also had a few impressive plays that kept runners from advancing.

Burnett was also named the Bengal Athlete of the Week by ISU Sports Information.

The Bengals will not play this week but travel to Tempe, Ariz. to play in the Diamond Devil Invitational Feb. 21-23.
