Butler Softball Sweeps Weekly BIG EAST Softball Awards

Bulldogs go 4-1 on the week, including 2-1 in BIG EAST-opening series with Creighton.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Kristen Boros, Butler, Sr., INF
Boros sparked an offense which totaled 39 runs over five games to go 4-1, including a 2-1 mark in Butler’s BIG EAST -opening series at Creighton over the weekend. The senior batted .556 on the week with 10 runs batted in and four extra-base hits. In the series with the Bluejays, Boros upped her average to .636, registering a homer in each of the three contests, totaling a 7-of-11 mark at the plate. In addition to the 2-1 record against Creighton, Butler swept a midweek series at Northern Kentucky.

BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Kacey Starwalt, Butler, So., RHP
Starwalt went 2-0 on the week, earning a 1.62 earned run average over 13 innings pitched. The sophomore made her debut of the week at Northern Kentucky, earning a win with six innings pitched and three strikeouts. She followed with a pair of appearances at Creighton, including 4.2 innings pitched with three strikeouts on Sunday to claim her second victory of the week. In seven BIG EAST innings pitched, Starwalt did not allow an extra-base hit and struck out three for a 1.00 ERA.

Weekly Honor Roll
Erin Burner, St. John’s, Sr., C/SS
In the Red Storm’s snow-abbreviated week, Burner went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a home run as St. John’s suffered a 5-2 setback to Dartmouth.

Sydnee Eck, Creighton, So., P
In two appearances against Butler, Eck totaled nine innings pitched with four strikeouts for a 3.11 ERA. The sophomore was credited with the win in Game 2 of Saturday’s doubleheader with seven innings of work.

Tori Free, St. John’s, Jr., P
Free returned from injury for the first time since Feb. 27, striking out eight of the first 10 batters faced in a three-inning start against Dartmouth. She returned to pitch the final two-thirds of the ninth inning, totaling nine strikeouts on the day in a no-decision showing.

Siera McConnell, Villanova, Jr., OF
McConnell batted .455 in a three-game weekend at Georgetown, highlighted by Saturday’s Game 2 performance of 3-for-4 with two RBI in the Wildcats’ 8-0 victory.

Anna O’Gorman, Creighton, So., DP
The sophomore batted .500 in a three-game series with Butler, going 5-of-10 from the plate with a triple and two runs batted in.
