CAA Announces Weekly Softball Awards

RICHMOND, Va (March 30, 2015) – A trio of freshmen earned the weekly Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) softball honors on Monday. Elon’s Kara Shutt was tabbed Player of the Week, James Madison’s Megan Good earned the pitching award and Hofstra’s Brielle Pietrafesa took home the rookie nod, the conference announced.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Kara Shutt • Elon
Fr. | OF | Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford

-Won her first career weekly CAA honor, helping the Phoenix to a 4-1 record last week with a productive effort across the board.
-Batted .500 (7-for-14) with a team-high eight runs scored. Also added seven RBI, a double and a home run.
-Drew a team-best seven walks and was 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.
-Recorded multi-hit performances in three of five games and hit .375 overall during Elon’s sweep at Drexel this past weekend.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Megan Good • James Madison
Fr. | P/INF | Mount Sidney, Va./Fort Defiance

-Credited with a 4-0 record in the circle and 1.57 ERA as the Dukes won all five contests played last week while upping their winning streak to 18 games.
-Picked up her third consecutive CAA weekly nod and fourth honor overall this season.
-Over four starts and one relief appearance, struck out 19 batters in 22.1 innings of work en route to staying perfect with a 16-0 record.
-Helped JMU beat North Carolina twice in a mid-week clash as well as a conference sweep of CofC at home. Also contributed a .389 batting average (7-for-18) and three RBI at the plate.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Brielle Pietrafesa • Hofstra
Fr. | OF | Pennsauken, N.J./Paul VI

-Earned her first career CAA weekly award after hitting .385 in Hofstra’s 4-0 week.
-In a 14-6, five-inning win over Towson on Sunday, smacked two home runs in one inning, going deep twice with four RBI as part of Hofstra’s nine-run second inning.
-Slugged .846, scored three runs, drove in seven runs and posted a .385 on-base percentage as the Pride swept the Tigers and also beat Big 10 foe Northwestern in a midweek clash.
