Campbell falls to Bethune-Cookman 3-2 in Hatter Invite opener

DeLand, Fla. – Bailey Connor and Shamaria Engram homered in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Bethune-Cookman to a 3-2 victory over Campbell Friday morning.
Connor pitched a perfect 1.2 innings to earn the first victory of the season for Wildcats (1-5).

Courtney Roberts threw six innings allowing three earned runs on five hits, while walking one and striking out one. The loss moves Campbell to an overall record of 2-3.
Campbell was led offensively by Raven Lee who went two-for-three with two singles. Bethune-Cookman’s Connor had two hits, including a homerun while driving in two.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third, when the Wildcats rallied with two singles and a stolen base to push across the game’s first run.

In the top of the fourth, Campbell capitalized on two hits and an error scoring twice in the frame. Shaela Churchill singled hard down the left field line driving in pinch runner Jessica Anderson. Olivia Scarborough reached base on an error, scoring pinch runner Erica Johnson.

Campbell loaded the bases in the top of the sixth inning. Wildcats’ right handed pitcher Connor induced two groundballs to get out of the jam.

Connor and Shamaria Engram each hit solo homeruns in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Wildcats a lead they would never relinquish.
Campbell continues tournament play tonight at 6:30 p.m. as they take on Stetson.
