Campbell Softball defeats Seton Hall 11-2 in Hampton Inn Invite finale

BUIES CREEK, N.C. –Campbell exploded for an eight run fourth inning and closed out the Hampton Inn Invitational with 11-2 win over Seton Hall Sunday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Campbell collected its second win of the weekend, evening its record to 2-2, while Seton Hall fell to 1-3.

Leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth, Campbell filled the bases with no one out before Ericka Nesbitt’s bases clearing double. Nesbitt and Kerstine Womack then scored on a wild pitch and a Seton Hall error, respectively. Milly Martinet drove in two with a base hit and Amanda Daw plated another Campbell run with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-3.

Morgan Eisenga earned the victory for the Camels, pitching two innings with a hit, a walk and a strikeout to move to 1-0. CU starter Julia Callicutt allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in three innings pitched.

Lauren Fischer (0-1) took the loss for Seton Hall, allowing eight runs, six earned, on six hits, walking four in three innings of work. Dannielle Destaso surrendered three runs, two earned, on two hits and two walks in an inning of relief.

After Meredith Henze solo homer in the top of the second, Martinet and Brittany Bruce answered, driving a run each for the Camels in the bottom half of the inning.

Seton Halls’ Whitney Jones homered to left centerfield, evening the game at 2-all.

Stephanie Jones followed in the bottom of the third with a solo shot of her own, giving Campbell the 3-2 advantage.

Campbell was led offensively by junior Stephanie Jones with two hits, including the solo home run, also scoring twice. Martinet drove in three runs on two hits, scoring a run.

Jones paced the Pirates with a pair of hits, including a homer.

The Camels will be back in action Tuesday, February 11 at 4 p.m. at North Carolina.
