COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball has announced the signing of former Omaha Mavericks pitcher Cheyenne Baxter, a native of Norborne, Mo., who earned Missouri Class 1 Second Team All-State recognition as a senior in 2012.
Baxter logged 46.1 innings for the Mavericks as a freshman in 2014, recording a 4-1 record behind Omaha’s senior ace who pitched 215.1 of the team’s 322.1 innings.
The 6-foot right-handed pitcher helped Norborne High School and head coach Michael Lock to a 20-2 record as a senior, earning her conference’s pitcher of the year award. Prior to switching to pitching full-time, Baxter earned second team all-state honors as an infielder as a junior in 2011.
“Getting a third pitcher was our top priority this offseason, and we’re so thankful to have landed Cheyenne,” said head coach Ehren Earleywine. “Not only does she have great potential, but she’s an in-state kid who will take great pride in playing at Mizzou.”
Baxter aided the Lady Pirates to a 26-1 season as a junior and finished the season with first team all-region, all-district and all-conference recognition for the second consecutive year.
“I’m excited to come to Mizzou because I love the atmosphere in Columbia,” Baxter said. “Most of my family is made up of Missouri alums, and it’s basically been a dream of mine to play for Mizzou. I really like the coaching staff because they are some of the best in the nation. I think they will do a great job of bringing out my full potential.”
Baxter additionally earned MBCA Class 1 All-State recognition in basketball as a senior in 2013 and also ran track for the Lady Pirates during her high school career. She played club softball with Originals ’95 for head coach Jeff Jeffries.
