Alabama State University held press conference today in the Club Lounge of the New ASU Stadium to introduce Head ASU softball coach Chris Steiner-Wilcoxson.

“We are very excited about bringing in a national championship caliber coach to the Hornet family,” said Interim Athletic Director Melvin Hines. “With all of her previous noted success in building several programs from the ground up ,we felt that she would be the best fit for ASU, and the direction in which we would like to see our softball program head to for the upcoming season.”

While at AUM, Steiner-Wilcoxson led the Warhawks to three consecutive NAIA Tournament appearances and the first national championship in program history she will look to have similar success as she leads the Lady Hornet Softball team this season. The Lady Hornet’s team posted its highest win total since 2007 last season and extended their streak to six straight years of winning at least one post-season game.

“I’m excited to be able to turn this program around”, said Steiner-Wilcoxson. “I’ve always wanted to coach at the Division I-A level and, now I have the opportunity to help ASU put its name on the map and take this program to a level it’s never been before.”
