Riverside – The UC Riverside Softball Team continued the Mizuno Invitational Thursday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over Sacred Heart in the second game of the doubleheader. Box Score.

Earlier on Thursday, the Highlanders rallied back from a four-run deficit to win, 6-5, over the Pioneers.

In the nightcap, Ashley Ercolano hit a solo homer in the second inning to put UC Riverside up 1-0.

In the third, the Highlanders added another run as Dionne Anderson tripled with one out, and scored on a wild pitch from Sacred Heart pitcher Anna Mallory.

UCR added another run in the fourth to go up 3-0. Stephanie Tickemyer drew a walk to lead off the frame, and after stealing second, moved to third on a ground out, and advanced home on a wild pitch.

In the fifth inning, two walks sandwiched around a Highlanders single loaded the bases with no outs. A double play then made it two outs, but Karina Romero hit a 2-RBI single to right field scoring a pair to increase the lead to 5-0.

That was all the scoring UC Riverside would need, as Ercolano held the Pioneers to two hits all game tossing a complete-game shutout.

The Mizuno Invitational continues on Friday with two games, but inclement weather might delay or cancel the day, so check back with gohighlanders.com for the latest schedule updates.
