Field set for Big Sky Softball Championships

OGDEN, Utah (May 5, 2014) – With the final softball games of the 2014 regular season done, the Big Sky Championship is next in Pocatello, Idaho.

The first game of the 2014 Big Sky Softball Championship (game one) will feature the host and No. 1 seed Idaho State against No. 4 Northern Colorado.  These two teams met three weeks ago with Idaho State sweeping the three-game series.  Idaho State won the first game 12-0 in five innings, the second game 9-8 and the third game 6-4.  Game one of the championship will be played on Thursday, May 8, at 1 p.m. MST.

The second game (game two) is between No. 2 Sacramento State and No. 3 Southern Utah.  These two teams met in the second week of the conference season, with each team winning one game in the two-game series.  Southern Utah won the first game 6-4. Sacramento State won the second game 6-3.  The third game of the series was cancelled due to rain.  Game two of the championship will be played on Thursday, May 8, at 4 p.m. MST.

Since this championship is double-elimination, each team will play at least two games.  The winners of games one and two will meet on Friday, May 9 at 10 a.m. in game three.  The losers of games one and two will play on Friday, May 9, at 1 p.m. in game four and the loser will be eliminated.  The loser of game three and the winner of game four will meet in game five on Friday, May 9, at 4 p.m.  The loser of game five will be eliminated, and the winner will advance to the championship against the winner of game three.

The winner of the Big Sky Conference Softball Championship receives an automatic bid to play in the NCAA Softball Championship.  The 2014 NCAA Division I Softball Championship bracket will be announced Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 10 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
