Florida State clinches ACC regular season championship
Game 1
The No. 5 Florida State Seminoles came into Louisville and clinched the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season championship with an 11-0 run-rule victory in the first game of Saturday afternoon’s doubleheader.
Junior Jessica Warren tied the FSU career home run mark (55) when she blasted a solo shot to center field in the top of the fifth inning. It was also her 16th long ball of the year.
Jessica Burroughs finished the first game one out shy of a no-hitter. She had only allowed two walks until two outs in the bottom of the fifth when Morgan Meyer ripped a double to the left field fence. The redshirt senior improved 22-2 and struck out seven Cardinals in five innings of work.
Game 2
Louisville sophomore Megan Hensley went head-to-head with Meghan King and Jessica Burroughs in an 11-inning contest. Hensley is no stranger to the Seminoles, she shut them out last year as a freshman.
Maryssa Becker gave Louisville a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth with a bases-loaded single up the middle. Florida State answered back in the seventh with a pinch-hit, two-RBI bloop single from Zoe Casas.
Carsyn Gordon gave FSU its first lead of the game in the ninth with a homer that landed in the street beyond the the left field fence. The Cardinals fought back to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning but it was FSU that had the final say. Sydney Broderick roped an RBI-double to the gap in right-center, scoring Alex Powers.
Meghan King earned the win and improved to 20-1 on the year in 6.2 innings. She allowed five hits, two runs, two earned runs, one walk and struck out five.
