Fortier, Gillen, Lore & Van Hoven Earn A-10 Softball Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fordham’s Elise Fortier has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player of the Week for games played April 21–27.  Fordham’s Rachel Gillen and Saint Louis’ Brianna Lore were honored as Co-Pitchers of the Week while Fordham’s Amy Van Hoven was named Rookie of the Week.

Fortier, a senior from Coventry, R.I., led the Rams to a 4-0 week while batting .444 with four home runs, 14 RBI and six runs scored.  After drawing two walks in the opening game of a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure on Tuesday, Fortier went off in game two, blasting a pair of home runs and tying a career-high with five RBI.  Fortier followed up with a two home run seven RBI performance against La Salle in a doubleheader on Saturday.

Gillen, a junior from Wilmington, Del., went 2-0 on the week along with tossing her first collegiate no-hitter on Tuesday in a 12-0 victory over St. Bonaventure. Against the Bonnies, she pitched five shutout innings while striking out seven. Later in the week against conference foe La Salle, Gillen picked up the victory for Fordham as she tossed 4.0 innings allowing only one earned run on five hits.

Lore, posted a record of 4-0 on the week with an ERA of 2.03 along with batting .438 (7-for-16) to lead the Billikens.  Over six appearances, Lore tossed 31.0 innings while allowing only nine earned runs and striking out 28. Lore also picked up three victories against A-10 opponents, George Mason and George Washington.

Van Hoven, batted .714 (10-for-14) last week while recording multi-hit performances in all four games. The West Monroe, N.Y., native went 3-4 with a triple in the opening game against the Bonnies on Tuesday before going a perfect 3-3 with an RBI in the second game of the doubleheader.  She then went a combined 4-7 against La Salle, bumping her season average to a team-best .371 and raising her A-10 average to a league-leading .533.
