PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for games ending April 5.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Selena Hernandez * IF * Sr. * Houston
Hernandez went a perfect 3-for-3 vs. No. 25/RV Texas on Wednesday including two homers that plated three runs for Houston. The senior added her third home run of the week in the second game vs. East Carolina to tie the score at 1-1. For the week, Hernandez had seven hits, seven RBIs, six runs and two walks in 15 at-bats and finished with a 1.133 slugging percentage.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Shelby Turnier * Jr. * UCF
Turnier tossed 16 innings in the series opener at Tulsa, setting a new UCF record for innings pitched that was previously set by Allison Kime in 2008. Turnier tied her season-high with 14 strikeouts in the win. The junior posted her eighth shutout of the season on Saturday in the 3-0 win over the Hurricane. She gave up just one earned run over the weekend and finished with a 0.30 earned run average over 23 innings.

Hit .556 with a HR, five hits and five runs in a 1-2 week for UConn that included a split versus USF
Lauren Evans * IF * Fr. * USF
Had three doubles and led the team with three RBIs in two games for USF, had game-winning hit in series opener at UConn
Shelby Miller * P/UTL * So. * Houston
Appeared in two games in the circle vs. East Carolina, put up five hits, two RBIs and two runs at the plate in four games
