The Husker softball team picked up a key addition to its 2015 roster on Tuesday, June 10, when Head Coach Rhonda Revelle announced that All-America catcher Steph Pasquale will transfer to Nebraska. Pasquale spent the first four years of her career at Temple, and she will have one season of eligibility for the Big Red.
Pasquale was set to end her career this spring in Temple’s final season fielding a softball team. But she suffered a broken hand and appeared in only 12 games in 2014, earning a medical hardship and a fifth year of eligibility. A native of Pompton Lakes, N.J., Pasquale was one of 50 players nationally named to the 2014 USA Softball Player of the Year Watch List, and she was also named a team captain. Pasquale was a 2013 third-team All-American, becoming the only Owl to earn All-America accolades. She was also the only two-time all-region selection in Temple history, and Pasquale was named the 2013 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and the 2011 A-10 Rookie of the Year.
In her Temple career, Pasquale posted a .379 average with 189 hits, 45 doubles, 25 homers and 152 RBIs. She also scored 79 runs and produced a .623 slugging percentage and a .442 on-base percentage. Pasquale struck out only 18 times in 499 career at bats as an Owl, recording three times as many walks (54) as strikeouts. Defensively, Pasquale owned a .989 fielding percentage at Temple, committing only eight errors in 738 chances.
Despite playing only three full seasons at Temple, Pasquale established school career records for hits, doubles, RBI and batting average, while ranking second in hits and total bases and fourth in home runs. Overall, Pasquale set 11 school records, including single-season records for games played (58), batting average (.465), at bats (187), hits (87), doubles (21), home runs (15), total bases (153) and RBIs (80) in her 2013 All-America campaign.
“We feel very fortunate to pick up a player with Steph’s ability and high character this late in the game,” Revelle said. “She is a great fit for the Nebraska softball team, and we cannot wait to get her on the field with us.”
Pasquale will join the Huskers in August, after completing her undergraduate degree in exercise and sports science this summer at Temple. She said it didn’t take long for her to decide to become a Husker.
“I e-mailed Nebraska and later that day I got a phone call,” she said. “I’m so excited to become a part of such a great program. I can’t wait to start playing.”
