NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State softball team hosted Western Illinois last Friday at Marian Kneer Stadium. In a fall league situational-type game, ISU’s bats were lively, scoring nine runs. No official score was kept due to the game being played with custom situations in each inning.

While no offical score was kept, it was clear that the Redbirds’ bats were better than they were in the Alumni Game. After being shutout by the alumni, ISU scored nine runs on 10 hits against Western Illinois. Eight different Redbirds recorded a hit as the offense was propelled by Annie Heineman and Payton Billups, who each recorded two.

Kelsey Turczyn led the team with three RBI, while Billups, Stephanie Gallant, and Regan Romshek each had two. As a team, the Redbirds hit .250 for the game.

Romshek also started on the mound in her fall season debut. The junior allowed four hits in four innings and struck out four batters. McKensie Vissering relieved Romshek and gave up three runs in three innings while Sarah Finck finished the game, striking out two in three innings.

The Redbirds now focus their attention on Lake Land College. Lake Land will come to Normal Wednesday and first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m at Marian Kneer Stadium.
