K.C. Boldt Named Assistant Coach for WKU Softball

By: Whitney Tarpy, Assistant Director-Athletic Communication/Media Relations – Western Kentucky University

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.—Western Kentucky University softball head coach Amy Tudor announced the hiring of K.C. Boldt as an assistant coach to her staff on Tuesday.

Boldt was previously an assistant coach with Horizon League Champion and NCAA Tournament participant Valparaiso where she also played for four years.

“I am excited for the opportunity to continue working with a championship-caliber team here at WKU,” Boldt said. “I’m looking forward to starting what I know will be a very rewarding and fulfilling coaching position. I’d like to extend my gratitude to Director of Athletics Todd Stewart and head coach Amy Tudor for giving me this opportunity and for welcoming me into the Hilltopper community.”

As a two-year assistant for the Crusaders, Boldt was responsible for alumni relations and fundraising, travel planning, recruiting, practice planning, game management and other areas of program function.

She was extensively involved in both on-and off-campus recruiting, including player evaluations, campus visits and potential student-athlete correspondence while helping to maintain the home playing field, including practice and game-day preparations and maintenance.

She guided Valpo to back-to-back conference tournament titles and NCAA Tournament appearances. At 2012’s Louisville Regional, Valpo fell by one run in each contest against Louisville and Kentucky. In 2013, the team won its first NCAA Regional game against Central Michigan before bowing out of the Ann Arbor Regional.

Prior to joining the Valparaiso coaching staff, she spent time working as the lead marketing intern for the Minnesota Vikings Training Camp while also working as a member of the Valparaiso University Event Staff.

Boldt was a four-year letterwinner for Valpo. She set a new Valpo single-season record as a senior in 2011 with 11 home runs and closed her career sixth on the Crusaders’ career home runs chart.

Boldt also matched the Crusader single-season RBIs record (42) and also moved into Valpo’s single-season top-fives in slugging percentage (.597, 2nd), total bases (95, 3rd) and runs scored (38, t-4th) as well. A Second-Team All-Horizon League honoree, Boldt also ranked among the league’s top-five as well in all five aforementioned categories, including tying for the league crown in runs scored.

Throughout her time as a player and coach with the Crusaders, Boldt assisted with Valpo’s various camps and clinics that it hosted. She has also assisted with clinics in her home region of the Twin Cities.

A member of the Horizon League’s Academic Honor Roll during her playing career, Boldt graduated from Valparaiso in the spring of 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in business management and in 2013 with her master’s degree in sports administration.
