FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana freshman outfielder Kinsey Nichols was chosen Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore right-hander Liz Carter was named pitcher of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hitter of the Week – Kinsey Nichols, Southeastern Louisiana
Nichols helped Southeastern Louisiana sweep Lamar and move in to a tie for first place in the Southland standings this week, batting .700 with two home runs, five RBI, six runs scored, a double and a triple. The Alvin, Texas (Alvin H.S.), native was 3-for-4 in Saturday’s series finale against the Lady Cardinals and hit a walk-off two run home run in a 6-4 victory. The freshman was 3-for-3 and hit her sixth triple of the season in a 12-2 run-rule win in Friday’s opener. Nichols also hit her first collegiate home run in Friday’s 8-1 win in game two of the series.

Pitcher of the Week – Liz Carter, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Carter propelled the Islanders in the circle with two wins and an impressive 0.50 ERA in two complete games this past weekend in the series against Sam Houston State. Holding the Bearkats to a .196 batting average, the Austin, Texas (Westlake H.S.), native struck out a total of nine batters in the two games. The sophomore gave up just one run in 14 innings pitched. This is the second consecutive week Carter has been named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week.
