Long Beach State teammates Ashlynn Booker and Amanda Hansen captured Big West Softball Field Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades after spurring the 49ers to an important conference sweep of Cal State Northridge.

Booker Sets 49er Single-Game RBI Record

Setting a Long Beach State single-game RBI record and going on a home run outburst earned senior Ashlynn Booker (Fontana, Calif./Mt. SAC CC) Big West Softball Field Player of the Week accolades.

The 49er slugger blasted a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, and established the program’s single-game record with seven RBI in a 10-0, five-inning run-rule victory over Cal State Northridge Sunday.  Booker’s first homer was a grand slam that put the 49ers on top 4-0 after one inning.  She unloaded a two-run shot in the next inning to give LBSU an insurmountable 9-0 lead.  Booker finished the game 3-for-3 and tied a career-best with the two home runs in one game.

Booker slugged another home run in the opening game of the three-game set, a two-run blast that helped the 49ers to an eventual 8-3 victory.

Earlier in the week, in a bid to upset No. 2 UCLA, Booker delivered a three-run bomb in the bottom of the first to stake the 49ers to a 3-0 lead.

For the week, the designated player/first baseman hit .312 (5-for-16) with a 1.062 slugging percentage and scored five times in addition to 12 RBI.  Booker ranks second on the team in home runs (10) and RBI (35).

Others nominated: Kim Westlund (Cal Poly); Christa Castello (UC Davis); Natalie Sanchez (UC Riverside); Emily Brucelas (UC Santa Barbara); Leisha Li’ili’i (Hawai‘i)

Hansen Throws 13 Scoreless Innings In 3-0 Week

Long Beach State junior Amanda Hansen (San Diego, Calif./University City HS) went 3-0 and tossed 13 consecutive scoreless innings against Cal State Northridge, wrapping up Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week honors.

The right-hander also pitched 4.2 innings in two appearances against No. 2 UCLA, and finished the week with a 2.38 ERA.

Hansen was untouchable as the winning pitcher in all three wins against the Matadors.  She allowed just five hits across the 13 innings of work, did not walk a batter and struck out six.  In game one, she got the win after two innings of one-hit relief.

She commanded the CSUN lineup in back-to-back shutouts to close out the series, throwing a three-hitter and a one-hitter.  Hansen extended her own streak against the Matadors – four straight shutouts in her last four starts against the Big West foe.

Others nominated:
Sierra Hyland (Cal Poly); Monique Wesley (Cal State Fullerton); Dana Cruse (UC Davis); Shelby Wisdom (UC Santa Barbara)
