Liberty softball head coach Dot Richardson has announced the addition of junior college All-American shortstop Mickey Loveridge to the Lady Flames’ roster.
Loveridge, a 5-7 shortstop from Concord, California, will attend Liberty starting in the fall of 2014, and will have two years of eligibility left after transferring from Sacramento City College.
With the addition of Loveridge, the Lady Flames will welcome nine newcomers to their roster for the 2014-15 campaign. Liberty’s softball squad will include eight incoming freshmen, along with junior college transfer Loveridge.
“We are extremely excited and blessed to have Mickey become a part of the Liberty Flames’ family,” said Richardson. “She brings experience and amazing God-given talents on both offense and defense. She possesses quickness, a strong arm and good game instincts at the shortstop position. Mickey has a drive to be the best that she can be both on and off the field. She will be a great addition to Liberty University and its softball program.”
Loveridge spent two seasons at Sacramento City College, capping her career there by being named an NFCA NJCAA All-America first team selection in 2014. As a sophomore, she batted .455, earning All-Big 8 Conference first team and Co-MVP awards. A two-time first team all-conference selection, Loveridge was also an All-NorCal recipient this past season.
Prior to her time at Sacramento City College, Loveridge posted a strong four-year career at Concord High School. She was named a first team all-league player as a freshman, junior and senior, missing most of her sophomore campaign with an injury. Following her junior and senior years, Loveridge was tabbed HASA MVP and QOM MVP. She batted .485 as a senior, earning league MVP honors.
