MEAC Announces Softball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State freshman Kayla McNair earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Delaware State’s Vanessa Ciocatto and Savannah State’s Amanda McDowell were selected Co-Pitcher of the Week, while Hampton’s Danielle Budden earned Rookie of the Week accolades.  

McNair (1B, Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) had a big week for the Spartans, hitting .556 (5-for-9) and driving in six, including a pair of home runs. McNair also scored four runs, including two in a win against Morgan State. Defensively, she contributed 34 putouts and assisted on one.

Ciocatto (P, Fr., La Habra, Calif.) pitched 14 innings in three appearances last week, allowing only eight hits and two scored runs. Ciocatto struck out six batters, including four against Coppin State.

McDowell (P, So., Cheney, Wash.) pitched the school’s first no-hitter in a 10-0 victory against North Carolina A&T. McDowell fanned nine and walked five in the win. In two games against the Aggies, McDowell went 2-0 with 22 strikeouts.

Budden (2B, Fr., Jackson, N.J.) registered a .467 batting average, while registering seven hits. She also scored six times and drove in a pair in a doubleheader against Howard. Defensively, she recorded six putouts, and assisted on seven.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Sabrina Edmonds (NCAT) hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam against Savannah State.

Amber Hallman (SSU) slugged 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI against Savannah State.

Alexis Hudson (UMES) batted 3-for-4, with a triple, against Norfolk State.

Jessica Madrid (DSU) registered three doubles and drove in seven runs against Coppin State and Virginia.

Dasia Moore (NCAT) scored four runs in three games against Savannah State.

Jamie Schulle (NSU) pitched a perfect 3-0 week in a sweep of Morgan State.

Kaitlyn Slater (DSU) had a double and two putouts against Coppin State.

Dominique Wilson (NCCU) registered two doubles and a triple against South Carolina State.
