MVC Player of the Week
Liz Broyles, Junior, Blanchard, Okla. – Wichita State
Liz Broyles hit .462 (6-13) at the Long Beach State Louisville Slugger Tournament to lead the Shocker offense. As Broyles hit .462 this past weekend, she scored two runs, hit one double, had three RBI (tied for the team lead), seven total bases (led the team), a .538 slugging percentage (led the team), two walks (tied for the team lead), and had a .529 on-base percentage (led the team).

MVC Pitcher of the Week
Katie Malone, Sophomore, Crete, Neb. – Wichita State
Katie Malone was spectacular this weekend for the Shockers, going 3-1 in four appearances at the Long Beach State Louisville Slugger Tournament. Malone had a 2.47 ERA over 22.2 innings pitched, gave up 15 runs (eight earned) on 26 hits, walking six and striking out 15. During the game against Utah Valley on Saturday, Malone pitched a complete game in relief, She pitched the complete game, gave up just one run (earned) on five hits, walked one and struck out six.

MVC Newcomer of the Week
Brooke Wyderski, Freshman, Justice, Ill. – Loyola
Wyderski hit 7-16 on the weekend to compile a .438 average, including two home runs to tally a .813 slugging percentage. Wyderski also added two runs and seven RBI over five games. She led the Ramblers in their opening game of the Coastal Carolina Invitational, batting three-for-four with two home runs to knock in 5 RBI. Later that day, she hit two-for-four in Loyola’s victory over Coastal Carolina, including an RBI single to give the Ramblers the lead in extra innings.

PLAYERS
Maria Schroeder, Bradley
Schroeder hit a team-best .455 with three runs scored and five RBI to help Bradley to a 2-2 record at the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala. The top hitting in the MVC this season with a .436 batting average, she opened the weekend with a 2-for-3 day at the plate in a win against Belmont. Schroeder had a double, walk and RBI to go with two runs scored in the victory. She drew a walk and drove in a run against Murray State, before going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run against Eastern Kentucky. Schroeder posted a .500 on base percentage for the week and scored or drove in eight of 22 Bradley runs.

Kelsey Wright, Drake
Freshman Kelsey Wright batted .364 (4-for-11) with one run batted in, two runs scored and two doubles in three games at the Cowgirl Classic. Wright’s best game was in a blowout victory over Texas Tech, 12-0, with two doubles, two runs scored and one run batted in.

Mickaela Fleming, Evansville
Fleming went 5-12 on the weekend at the plate giving her an average of .417. She was also able to reach base twice. Fleming accumulated a total of 10 bases on the weekend while scoring two runs for the Aces. Fleming had two doubles, a homerun, and totaled 5 RBIs on the weekend. She boasted a team high .833 SLG% on the weekend while also tying for the team high at .500 for her OB%. Fleming was also solid on the field for the Aces with a FLD % of 1.000 for the weekend.

Stephanie Gallant, Illinois State
After slumping to start the season, Stephanie Gallant’s bat came alive in a big way for Illinois State. Gallant hit .429 (6-14) in five games this past weekend, including a 3-3 effort against Boston. The senior scored a run and drove in seven while accumulating an on-base percentage of .556, which was tops on the team. In the field, she made 37 putouts and had two assists while going errorless.

Kassie Brown, Indiana State
Sophomore Kassie Brown led the Sycamores in a pair of games Sunday going 4-5 at the plate for an .800 batting average with an RBI and run scored. The sophomore also drew a walk for an .833 on base percentage with a stolen base while holding a perfect fielding percentage at short stop.

Merri Anne Patterson, Southern Illinois
Merri Anne Patterson hit .412 with three doubles and three RBIs over the weekend for SIU. She slugged .588 and stole a base in addition to her 7-for-17 weekend, with three runs scored and 10 total bases. Patterson started all five games and raised her batting average to a team-leading .300.

PITCHERS
Alyson Spinas-Valainis, Bradley
Spinas-Valainis was 1-1 with a 3.60 in two appearances last weekend at the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala. Against Murray State, she gave up five runs in 4.2 innings of work, before tossing her third complete game of the year Sunday in a 2-1 win against Belmont. Spinas-Valinis took a no-hit bid into the fourth inning before giving up a one-out hit and held the Bruins to just three hits and one run in the complete game victory. She struck out four and walked one in the win.

Nicole Newman, Drake
Freshman Nicole Newman went 1-1 with a 3.00 earned run average and 20 strikeouts in two starts at the Cowgirl Classic. Newman collected 20 strikeouts in just 9.1 innings pitched. She went 4.1 innings and struck out nine Texas Tech Raiders to earn a win. Newman followed that with 11 strikeouts against Memphis in 5.0 innings.

Regan Romshek, Illinois State
Regan Romshek went 2-2 over the weekend with a 3.80 earned run average. In four starts, Romshek struck out 19 batters while walking seven. She pitched 23.2 innings and picked up her second shutout of the season in a 7-0 victory over UTSA. Romshek tied her season-high with eight strikeouts in that game. Against Boston, she allowed one run on three hits in a complete game win and only allowed one batter to reach base after the first inning.

Madison Hope, Loyola
Hope compiled a 1-1 record over the weekend, pitching 19.0 innings to record a 4.42 ERA. Hope earned a complete-game victory in Loyola’s extra innings win over Coastal Carolina on the first day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational. She held the Chanticleers to two runs while striking out 12.

Chelsea Ross, UNI
Chelsea Ross tossed two games for the Panthers over the weekend at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla. Ross tallied a 2.15 ERA, allowing four earned runs in two games while striking out 10 batters and walking just one during 13 innings of work. The Panthers fell to UAB, Columbia, Lehigh, and Maryland over the weekend.

NEWCOMERS

Hayli Scott, Evansville
Hayli Scott is coming off a superb weekend at the Black and Orange Challenge hosted by Mercer University. Scott made five starts for the Aces and hit .474 while going 9-19. Scott finished the weekend with a SLG% of .526 and an OB% of .474. Scott was able to get a double on the weekend and grab three RBIs for the Aces. Scott compiled 10 bases on the weekend and scored two runs for Evansville. Scott was also one of three Aces to steal a base on the weekend. Scott had a solid weekend in the field with a FLD% of .857.

Mackenzie Wright, Wichita State
Mackenzie Wright hit .417 during the Long Beach State Louisville Slugger Tournament, helping the Shockers go 3-2 over the weekend. Her .417 batting average (5-12) was second on the team, as she scored two runs, a RBI, five total bases, a .417 slugging percentage, a walk, a .500 on-base percentage, a stolen base and a 1.000 fielding percentage. Overall, Wright is batting .289 (13-45). She’s scored six runs, has a home run (inside the park), five RBI, 16 total bases, a .356 slugging percentage, five walks, a .441 on-base percentage, and four stolen bases.
