TAMPA, FEB. 17, 2014 – Senior pitcher Sara Nevins was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season while sophomore catcher Lee Ann Spivey was selected to the conference honor roll.
This is the first pitcher of the week award for Nevins this season after being named Big East Pitcher of the Year in 2013.
She posted a 3-0 record with a 0.39 earned run average and 27 strikeouts over the weekend while allowing only one run in 18.0 innings pitched for the Bulls.
Spivey was named to the conference honor roll for the first time this season after leading the team with two home runs, seven hits and four runs batted in over the weekend that saw USF post a 3-2 record.
She also scored the game winning run in the Bulls’ walk-off victory over Illinois on Sunday afternoon.
USF returns to action this Friday when they travel to Clearwater, Fla., to kick off the NFCA Lead-Off Classic against Illinois State at 2:30 p.m.
