KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No.1/2 Tennessee softball team heads south to Tampa, Fla., this week for the USF Tournament from Feb. 14-16.

The Lady Vols (4-0) will face Pittsburgh (3-2) and Binghamton (0-0) on Friday at 6:15 p.m. ET and 8:30 p.m. ET, respectively. Tennessee will have its toughest test to date when it takes on tournament host USF (1-2) on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. The Bulls are receiving votes in both the USA TODAY/NFCA poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. UT plays Illinois (5-0) at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and concludes its stay in Tampa on Sunday with an 11:15 a.m. ET game against Wright State (0-0).

All five games will feature a free live audio broadcast through UTSports.com.

Tennessee enjoyed a fine start to its 2014 season last week, going 4-0 with two wins against Northern Colorado and wins against two-time Southern Conference champion Georgia Southern and Oakland.

Several Lady Vols enjoyed standout performances on opening weekend. Freshman Megan Geer went is hitting a team-best and an SEC second-best .600 through four games. Her 4-for-4 effort in the season opener against Northern Colorado marked the first time a UT player has recorded four hits in a season opener in records dating back to 2001. Geer was also the first Tennessee freshman to record a four-hit game since Raven Chavanne (four times) and Kat Dotson (once) did so in 2010.

Sophomore Lexi Overstreet hit UT’s first home run of the season, belting a two-RBI shot to right center in the fifth inning of the Lady Vols’ 8-3 win over Northern Colorado on Feb. 8.

Senior pitcher Ellen Renfroe posted a pair of shutouts to start the 2014 season, fanning 15 batters and allowing just three hits over 12 shutouts frames to earn wins over Northern Colorado and Georgia Southern. Renfroe now has 56 complete games, moving past older sister Ivy Renfroe (55) for fifth place on Tennessee’s all-time complete-games list. She also has 31 career shutouts, a total that is second only to Monica Abbott’s 112.

After this weekend’s games in Tampa, Tennessee will head out west for two weeks to compete in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic from Feb. 22-23, play a single game at Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 25 and compete in the San Diego Classic from Feb. 27 to March 1.
