The Bulldogs have moved into sole possission of first place in the Northeast Conference Softball Standings. Led my NEC Player of the Week, Aubrey Mable, the Bulldogs went 3-1 in conference action. Mable ammassed four hits, three RBI and two runs scored In a battle of the top two teams. Bryant and Central Connecitcut split the doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

Entering the contest, the Blue Devils went on an eight-win streak, including five shutouts, before falling to Bryant in game two of a doubleheader on Sunday. NEC Pitcher of the Week, Laura Messina, posted a 0.82 ERA, pitching five complete games including three shutouts.

Week 9 Hightlights:
The Red Flash turned a triple play against LIU Brooklyn on Sunday. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Blackbirds cleanup hitter Ariana Lopez lined out to Kindra Witthus. She then tagged the LIU runner before she could retreat to third base for the second out. Confusion over whether or not Witthus caught the ball on the fly caused her to throw the ball to first, and the LIU runner at second broke for third. Sabrie Neeb fired the ball back to Witthus who applied the tag for a 5-3-5 triple play.

Bryant’s Elle Madsen hit her 11th homerun of the season, setting the Bryant softball single-season homerun record.

Kat Malcolm (Central Connecticut) tallied 11 hits this week including four doubles and a home run, her third of the season. With her four doubles, Malcolm totals eight for the season, 24 in her career, cracking into the top-10 in the CCSU record book.

NEC Rookie of the Week Alex Portesi sparked the rally with a lead-off single in the bottom of the fourth against Mount St. Mary’s. Portesi scored the Knights the first run on junior Angelique Nieves’ two-out-two-run triple, which gave FDU a 2-0 lead.
