NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma softball team capped an unbeaten and dominant weekend at their annual Fall Festival with a 23-2 win over Seminole State College Sunday. The two teams agreed to play 10 innings in the contest.

In going 4-0 over the weekend, Oklahoma outscored its opponents 42-2 and dominated in practically every other category including hits (49-9), doubles (10-2), home runs (6-1), walks (34-4), stolen bases (15-1) and strikeouts thrown (48-12).

Seventeen members of the OU roster saw action Sunday as the team pounded out 23 hits and walked 13 times. Eight batters collected multiple hits, including three hits each for seniors Lauren Chamberlain and Shelby Pendley, junior Whitney Ellis and freshman Kelsey Arnold.

OU hit three home runs in the win, including the first of the fall for both Chamberlain and Pendley. Miller connected for her team-best third long ball of the season in the contest.

After run-scoring hits from Chamberlain and Ellis in the first inning, the Sooners tacked on three more runs in the second behind a passed ball, RBI groundout and an RBI double by Chamberlain.

The game was broken wide open in an eight-run third inning, highlighted by a two-run double by junior Tori Nirschl and a two-run homer for Chamberlain.

Each team scored twice in the fourth, but Pendley crushed a three-run homer over the bleachers in right field to extend the Oklahoma lead to 18-2 in the fifth.

Oklahoma then scored three more times in the sixth before tallying the game’s final two runs in the seventh.

Like they had all weekend, the Sooners got dominant pitching again in the circle Sunday. Leading the way was starter freshman Paige Parker, who struck out five in three perfect innings of work.

Oklahoma continues fall play on Friday, Oct. 17, against Butler Community College.
