The Oklahoma State softball team opened its fall exhibition schedule with a 12-1 victory on Wednesday, taking down Eastern Oklahoma State College in a ten-inning scrimmage at Cowgirl Stadium.

The Oklahoma State bats were led by newcomer Jessi Haffner, who went 4-6 from the plate and produced four RBIs in her collegiate debut. The freshman from Wichita, Kan., finished a triple short of hitting for the cycle after smacking a two-run double in the second and a solo home run in the fifth.

The Cowgirls’ strong start was also aided by a two-run blast from Peyton Walker and run-producing singles from Danielle Riddle and Vanessa Shippy, while Maddi Holcomb went 4-5 at the dish and posted two runs.

Sophomore Meagan Lively recorded six strikeouts in her fall debut, holding the Lady Mountaineers to only one hit over four innings. After allowing a single in the first, Lively retired nine of the next 11 batters before leaving with a 6-0 lead.

Walker helped keep the EOSC offense at bay after relieving Lively in the fifth, using only eight pitches to send the Lady Mountaineers down in order. Illinois-transfer Brandi Needham provided an effective outing as well, striking out four and allowing one run over four innings of work.

In addition to her contributions from the plate, Haffner provided a shutout inning in the tenth to close out the Oklahoma State victory.
