Pac-12 Sunday Night Softball preview

Who: Oregon State at No. 10 Washington

WhenSunday, April 9 at 5 p.m. PT/ 6 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Network, Oregon and Washington

On the call: Elise Woodward and Danielle Lawrie

Where: Seattle, Wash.

Both teams came away with a win in Saturday’s doubleheader. The Huskies took Game 1, 4-3, and the Beavs took the other, 2-1, marking their second conference win of the season. Pac-12 ‘Sunday Night Softball’ will feature the series rubber match, so here’s what to look out for.

On the home side: Washington Huskies (28-9 overall, 5-6 Pac-12)

The Dawgs hold an all-time 60-21 record against their Pac-12 rivals from Corvallis. They’ll look to their power hitters to secure the rubber match.

Huskies to watch

Casey Stangel, OF, senior

Stangel hit two home runs in the Huskies’ 12-4 win over UCLA last week: one three-run bomb, the other a solo shot. The Idaho native is a key source of pop at the plate for the Huskies, toting a .394 average and .707 slugging percentage. She also flashed some leather in the outfield, extinguishing a run in that game with a perfect throw home.

Ali Aguilar, INF, senior

Speaking of pop.

Aguilar matched Stangel’s power at the plate in that game against UCLA, knocking two out of the park, too.

Taran Alvelo, P, sophomore

Last year’s co-Pac-12 Freshman of the Year is off to another solid start. She ranks 55th in the NCAA with 104 strikeouts and her 16 wins ranks 13th.

On the visiting side: Oregon State Beavers (2-6 Pac-12, 19-16 overall)

The Beavs are primed to take their first conference series win of the season after a potential momentum swing in game two of the doubleheader on Saturday. Natalie Hampton made history Saturday with her 144th career RBI, breaking Tarrah Beyster’s program record. But here are some other names to watch out for on Sunday.

Beavs to watch

McKenna Arriola, SS, junior

McKenna Arriola is a table setter and a producer. She holds a .385 average, has scored 25 of the team’s runs and holds a .444 OBP. She’s on a tear, going a combined 6-for-8 with a double and three RBI in a two-game series against UNLV this week.

Alysha Everett, INF, junior

Everett’s also running on a hot streak. The junior from California went 5-for-7 against UNLV, tallying six RBI, and went 2-for-4 with a double, single and RBI in their win against Washington on Saturday.
