Stockton, Calif. – Following a rainout of the season opening doubleheader against Sacramento State, the Pacific softball team will now shift its focus to a season opener against a familiar foe, former Big West opponent UC Davis.
The Tigers will face the Aggies for the 32nd time on Tuesday. Pacific owns a 19-12 advantage in the all-time series, including taking two of three in Davis in 2013, Pacific’s final year in the conference.
The Aggies (1-4) spent the weekend in Las Vegas at the UNLV SportCo Kick-Off Classic. On Friday, UC Davis squeaked past Arkansas, a team that received votes in the USA Today/NFCA preseason top 25 poll. In the nightcap Friday, the Aggies fell to host UNLV before dropping contests to San Diego, No. 16 Baylor and No. 5 Washington to wrap up the weekend in the Silver State.
The Aggies, who were picked to finish fifth in the Big West, have a potent pitcher in sophomore Justine Vela. Vela, the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year as a freshman, posted a 15-10 record with a career low 2.03 ERA in 2013.
On offense, Christa Castello led the Aggies with a .308 batting average, starting all 52 games as a freshman and Chandler Wagner paced the Aggies with 23 RBI.
The midweek matinee contest will begin at 1:30pm at La Rue Field in Davis. A live audio stream of the contest will be provided by KDVS 90.3 FM. Links for live stats and the audio stream are available on PacificTigers.com.
