STANFORD, Calif. – Dorian Shaw was named assistant coach of the Stanford softball team, as announced today by head coach Rachel Hanson.

A graduate of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology in 2011, Shaw joins the Cardinal after serving as an assistant coach last season at Dartmouth under Hanson’s leadership. She helped lead the Big Green to its first Ivy League Championship in program history with an 18-2 conference record. Prior to assisting Hanson at Dartmouth, Shaw spent one season as the top assistant at George Mason.

“I’m thrilled to bring Dorian with me, as she’ll bring a passion for the game, a great competitive background and a unique ability to connect with Stanford softball players both present and future,” said Hanson. “She also brings a familiarity with my systems, which will allow us to jump right in to the coaching side at Stanford.”

Shaw had an outstanding collegiate career at Michigan where she hit .315 with 58 home runs, 178 runs and was a two-time NFCA All-Great Lakes Region selection. She earned All-America second team, NFCA All-Great Lakes Region first team and All-Big Ten second team honors during her junior year. Among her many accomplishments, Shaw matched Michigan’s single-season home run record with 21 and drove in 60 RBI during her junior season.

As a senior, she was a finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year and Lowe’s Senior Class Award.

Shaw, who holds a degree in sport management, excelled in the classroom, earning the Michigan Academic-Athletic Achievement Award for academic and athletic excellence during each of her four years. She was named to the Dean’s List in 2008 and 2011, and was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2009 and 2011.

Shaw boasts professional softball experience after being the fourth-overall selection in the 2011 National Pro Fastpitch Senior Draft by the Chicago Bandits.
