OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton softball head coach Brent Vigness announced the addition of Jami Strinz-Penner as assistant coach on the 2015 staff Thursday afternoon.
Strinz-Penner comes to Creighton from Beaverton, Oregon. There she served as head coach for Blaze Gold Softball, a 16-Gold program made up of players from Oregon and Washington, over the past two seasons. Last year, Strinz-Penner also served as the head recruiting coach at the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA).
The Oregon native has over 10 years of experience working in higher education as a coach and an administrator. In addition to her coaching roles, she has served in the areas of NCAA compliance, internal operations, event management and academic advising most recently at Portland State University and Western Oregon University.
The one-time pitcher from former Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) rival Bradley is already familiar with Omaha after a four-year stint in the circle for the Braves from 1998-2001. Strinz-Penner will primarily work with the Bluejay pitchers.
“I am very excited to be joining the Creighton softball staff and look forward to sharing my experiences and love of the game with our team,” said Strinz-Penner. “I would like to thank Coach Vigness and Coach Sinkler for welcoming myself and my family to the Bluejay softball family. I look forward to our shared success on the field this upcoming season.”
“It was extremely important to me and our program that we bring in an experienced pitching coach who could also open up new doors for us in the area of recruiting,” said Vigness. “Jami is a seasoned coach who is highly regarded in our sport and has strong recruiting ties to the West Coast. I am excited about the addition of Jami to our staff.”
In addition to her experience as a Division I student-athlete at Bradley, Strinz-Penner also competed as a member of Ireland’s National Softball Team. Later she played professionally overseas in the Italian Professional League before eventually coaching collegiate and youth softball for the past 10 years.
During her playing career at Bradley, Strinz-Penner led the Braves in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched in both 1998 and 1999. She is a current member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, the National Association of Collegiate Woman Athletic Administrators and the Alliance of Woman Coaches. Strinz-Penner earned her bachelor’s degree from Bradley in English with minors in secondary education and creative writing in 2001.
