Summit League Hands out Weekly Awards

ELMHURST, Ill. – Western Illinois infielder Payton Abbott was named Summit League Player of the Week while teammate Kacyee Hart and IUPUI’s Brooke Boetjer garnered the league’s Pitcher of the Week awards for their performances during the week of Feb. 15-21.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
PAYTON ABBOTT, WESTERN ILLINOIS
Fr.  // IF // Stillman Valley, Ill.

  • Named Summit League Player of the Week for the first time in her career
  • Helped the Leathernecks to a 3-1 weekend at Total Control Sports Invitational in Rosemont, Ill. 
  • Hit .500 (5-for-10) over the week, with an on-base percentage of .615 to go with an .800 slugging percentage
  • Went three-for-four with a RBI and run scored in 8-4 win over Green Bay
  • Ranks second in the league with her .417 season batting average

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
BROOKE BOETJER, IUPUI
Sr. // RHP // Fillmore, Ind.

  • Earned her fourth career Summit League Pitcher of the Week award and first this season
  • Went 2-0 with a 1.94 ERA at the Total Control Sports Invitational in Rosemont, Ill.
  • Tossed two complete games, including working all 11 innings in the Jaguars’ 6-5 win over Indiana State
  • Allowed only one earned run in complete-game win over Green Bay while striking out five batters

KACYEE HART, WESTERN ILLINOIS
Sr. // RHP // Franfort, Ill.

  • Collected her first career Pitcher of the Week award, becoming the first Leatherneck pitcher to earn the honor since 2011
  • Picked up her first two wins of the seasons with her two complete games vs. Green Bay and UIC
  • Registered nine strikeouts in 14.0 innings pitched with a 2.00 ERA
  • Pitched a complete-game shutout in 1-0 victory over UIC
