UCF’s Novak, Turnier Tabbed American Softball Players of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for games ending April 12.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kahley Novak * 2B * Sr. * UCF

Novak had three multi-hit contests in four games and finished with seven hits, seven runs, two RBIs and five stolen bases during an unblemished week for UCF. The senior moved to seventh all-time on UCF’s leaderboard in hits and ranks sixth in school history in runs after her output last week. Novak started the week with a 2-for-4 outing at Stetson with three runs and an RBI and later added five hits, four runs and three stolen bases in a conference sweep of Houston.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Shelby Turnier * Jr. * UCF

Turnier posted her ninth shutout of the season over the weekend in a 2-0 win over Houston on Saturday. The junior recorded three wins last week and began the week with an 11-strikeout performance at Stetson. She posted a two-hitter in the complete game win over the Cougars on Saturday and gave up one hit in four innings vs. Houston on Sunday. Turnier has tossed 34 consecutive innings without allowing a run and tallied 18 strikeouts in 15 innings of action last week.

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Alyssa Gardea * OF *Jr. * UConn
Hit .444 in UConn’s 3-1 week, including a pair of homers in Sunday’s doubleheader sweep of Memphis

Kalyn Cenal * 1B * Jr. * UCF
Went 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI Sunday vs. Houston, tied the UCF single game record with four hits

Brittany Vaughn * 3B * So. * Memphis
Finished 6-for-10 with five RBIs and four runs in three games at UConn, led the team with a .467 BA over the week

Jordan Richwood * P * Sr. * Memphis
Pitched three complete games last week, including a one-hit shutout in game one of the series at UConn

Kristen Wyckoff * 2B * So. * USF
Had two hits, a run and an RBI in USF’s win at Florida Gulf Coast, the Bulls’ lone game of the week
