Upstate Sweeps A-Sun Softball Weekly Honors

MACON, Ga. – After posting a conference series sweep and clinching a berth in the Atlantic Sun Softball Championship, USC Upstate swept this week’s weekly honors as Kendall Settlemyre and Lexi Shubert won, the league office announced on Monday.

Settlemyre earns her second weekly honor of her career after dominating at the plate last week. The senior belted a combined six home runs to lead the Spartans to a 5-1 record. Settlemyre finished the week with 10 total hits, including four multi-hit games. She also had two multi-home runs games as she hit two each against Gardner-Webb and Stetson. For the week she batted .526 with an on-base percentage of .609 and a slugging percentage of 1.474. She capped off the week with a 3-for-3 performance including two home runs against conference rival Stetson to help the Spartans sweep the weekend series.

Shubert becomes the first A-Sun pitcher to win four consecutive Pitcher of the Week awards after posting a 3-1 record and adding a save to her weekly total for USC Upstate. The sophomore from Hickory, N.C. pitched three complete games, including a shutout over Gardner-Webb. Shubert’s pitching performance also helped Upstate become the first team to clinch an A-Sun championship berth after pitching in all three victories over Stetson. Shubert finished the week with 14 strikouts and a combined ERA of 1.70. Shubert leads the leads the league in ERA and wins this season.

– Added four walks and collected 11 assists in the field defensively for the Spartans

– Secured two wins over conference rival Stetson, finishing with 11.2 innings pitched and only allowing three runs
– Picked up the save in game two of series allowing only one hit in final 1.2 innings
– Struck out 14 batters combined and finished week with 1.70 ERA
