PROVIDENCE, R.I. The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for games ending April 26.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Karlie Smith * 3B *Fr. * East Carolina

Smith hit a pair of grand slams in as many days in East Carolina’s series win over UConn on Saturday and Sunday. The freshman’s first grand slam in Saturday’s 15-3 win was her first career homer and she followed that up with another HR in Sunday’s 12-0 win. Smith finished the week with five hits, five runs and 10 RBIs in 14 at-bats. The Dagsboro, Delaware native also had a hand in two of the Pirate runs in a 4-3 walk-off win over NR/RV North Carolina on Thursday. Smith had a hit, an RBI and a run in East Carolina’s first win over the Tarheels since 2008.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Shelby Miller * So. * Houston

Miller pitched two complete games over the weekend in a series win at Tulsa. The sophomore finished with a 1.08 earned run average in 13.0 innings of action against the Hurricane. It was also just her sixth and seventh complete games of the season. At the plate, Miller helped the Cougars on the offensive end by hitting a home run in Saturday’s 5-4 win and scoring two times. Houston moved into second place in The American softball standings following the series win at Tulsa and lead the Hurricane by a half game in league play.

Was 6-for-9 in the series win at USF and had two multi-hit games in three contests versus the Bulls

Courtney Klingler * C * Jr. * Houston
Recorded a hit in every game at Tulsa, including a 2-for-3 outing in Saturday’s 7-3 win

Lydia Ritchie * P * So. * East Carolina
Pitched three complete games over the week with 12 Ks, had a career-high five strikeouts in a win over NR/RV North Carolina

Lee Ann Spivey * C/OF * Jr. * USF
Led the team with four hits and also drove in three runs; became the fourth player in USF history to post 50 or more RBIs in a season

Kalyn Cenal * 1B * Jr. * UCF
Hit her ninth homerun of the season in Saturday’s 5-0 win over North Florida, went 2-for-3 vs. the Ospreys
