Auburn Softball

SEC Softball

Co-Player of the Week
Emily Carosone • Auburn
Senior • 2B • Orlando, Fla.

Carosone batted .500 last week, recording seven hits, eight runs and seven RBI. She tied the school record with four runs in the second game of the series vs. No. 13/12 Georgia. Carosone took three HBP to bring her up to 77 for her career, ranking third among active players and fifth all-time in the NCAA.

Emily Crane • Missouri
Senior • RF • Troy, Mo.

In a 4-0 week for the Tigers, Crane posted a .500 batting average while recording seven hits, five runs and seven RBI. She slid safely home to score the game-winning run in game two of the series vs. No. 16/17 Texas A&M. Crane led the seventh-inning rally with a double to left field, her 13th double this season. She has reached base in 17 consecutive games, matching her career high.

Pitcher of the Week
Delanie Gourley • Florida
Junior • LHP • Lakeside, Calif.

Gourley earned a pair of wins and a pair of saves this week for the Gators. Her week was highlighted by throwing her third-career no hitter in the series opener against Mississippi State, where she notched four strikeouts and allowed just three walks in five innings on Friday night. On Saturday against MSU, Gourley relieved sophomore Aleshia Ocasio in the sixth and tossed two scoreless innings with one strikeout to earn her fifth save of the season, second of the week, and 12th of her career. Against Mississippi State this weekend, she tossed 12 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits, while registering 12 strikeouts, two wins and one save.

Freshman of the Week
Amanda Lorenz • Florida
OF • Moorpark. Calif.

Lorenz recorded a pair of game-winning home runs this week, with one coming in walk-off fashion. In the bottom of the fifth inning on Wednesday against USF with the game in a scoreless tie, she hit a two-out solo home run of the scoreboard in left-center field. On Sunday in the series finale with MSU, Lorenz hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to help No. 1 Florida defeat Mississippi State, 3-1 (10 innings), to sweep its fourth SEC series of the season. For the week, she posted a .364 batting average with four hits, three runs and five RBI.

Pac-12 Softball

SAN FRANCISCO — The Pac-12 Conference office announced the softball weekly honors for play from Apr. 18-24. UTAH junior infielder Anissa Urtez was named player of the week, fellow Ute outfielder Ally Dickman was tabbed freshman of the week while WASHINGTON freshman pitcher Taran Alvelo was voted pitcher of the week.

Urtez (Long Beach, Calif.) led the team in a number of categories including hits, runs scored and driven in this week as the Utes went 4-0, completing a sweep of Stanford for their seventh-straight Conference win. She also slugged .714 and her second home run of the season set the tone in the 13-0 opening win over Stanford. Urtez got the Utes on the board in the final game in the series against Stanford with an RBI single in the first inning. Her 14 doubles currently lead the league and her 59 hits are good for third overall. This is Utah’s 14th weekly league honor.

Alvelo (Carroll, Ohio) led the No. 10 Huskies to a series win against Oregon State, 2-1 and Alvelo earned both of the wins in the circle for the Huskies. She was relentless in the circle against the Beavers, allowing just one earned run in the longest appearance of her career. She scattered nine hits and just one walk while striking out a career-high 11 batters in 10 innings pitched. Alvelo threw 155 total pitches and 106 were for strikes. In the series finale, she earned the complete-game win, allowing just six hits and two runs while striking out six. This is Alvelo’s second pitcher of the week accolade, fourth overall and Washington’s 96th.

Dickman (Mission Viejo, Calif.) led the Utes this week with a .600 batting average, a .900 slugging percentage and three doubles. She accumulated five runs batted in as she notched three multi-hit games, including a two-run double in the first game of the Stanford doubleheader. This is Dickman’s second freshman weekly honor this season and Utah’s 15th overall.

Big 12 Softball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Paige von Sprecken, Texas, DP/P, So., Yorba Linda, Calif.
von Sprecken led the Texas offense during its sweep over Oklahoma State last weekend by hitting .571 overall (4-for-7) with her first career HR and a team-high six total RBIs while posting a 1.625 OPS. She opened her weekend efforts on Saturday with a key two-RBI single during the fifth inning that started Texas’ comeback from a 3-0 deficit to an eventual 5-3 victory, while also tossing five innings from the circle in a no decision. The Yorba Linda, California, product saved her best at the plate for Sunday’s finale, blasting her first career HR, a three-run shot, in the third frame, and later knocking in the game-winning run on a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth as the Longhorns completed the sweep, 8-7. She posted a career-high four RBIs in the Sunday victory.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Heather Stearns, Baylor, RHP, Sr., Plano, Texas
Stearns, a senior from Plano, Texas, turned in a remarkable week in the circle, highlighted by a no-hitter on senior-day. She began the week by tossing three perfect innings vs. Texas State, and followed that performance with a complete-game shutout of Kansas in the series opener where she allowed just three hits and struck out 10. That set the stage for her senior day outing, a no-hit shutout performance where she walked only one and struck out five. The game was sweetened by walk-off, two-run home run by fellow senior and Stearns’ catcher Robin Landrith, giving Baylor the 2-0 victory and series sweep. On the week, Stearns spun 17 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out 21. She earned a 2-0 record and pushed her career-best scoreless streak to 24 innings. For the season, Stearns is second in the Big 12 in ERA (1.74) and wins (18), and leads the league with 195 strikeouts and six saves. Her 195 punch outs rank 15th in the country.

ACC Softball

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State third baseman Jessica Warren has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Boston College’s Jessica Dreswick and FSU’s Meghan King were named Co-Pitchers of the Week.

The honors are the first of the season for Warren and Dreswick, while King was named ACC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year.

Warren carried the Seminole offense to a 4-1 week, including a road win at No. 3 Auburn on April 20. For the week, Warren batted .455 with a .727 slugging percentage and was on base at a .562 clip. She drove in eight RBIs for the week and scored three of her own. The Tampa, Florida, native had a base hit in four of the five games on the week, including a 1-for-1 performance with a home run, sacrifice fly and two RBIs at No. 3 Auburn. On Sunday, she drove in five runs and batted 2-for-2 from the plate as the Noles completed a three-game sweep of Virginia Tech.

Dreswick became just the second pitcher in Boston College history to throw a no-hitter in the Eagles’ 4-0 victory over NC State on Saturday. The Flemington, New Jersey, native’s effort came one month after she came within an out of recording a no-hitter against Georgia Tech. The sophomore was lights out, striking out six and not allowing a runner to advance past first base until the bottom of the seventh inning. Right-handed hitters were 0-of-14 against her and the Wolfpack was a collective 0-for-12 against her with runners on base.

King was a perfect 2-0 in the circle for Florida State, including a complete-game victory in the road win at No. 3 Auburn. The redshirt freshman pitcher limited the NCAA’s best offense to just three runs in the non-conference victory, as the Tigers entered the game averaging more than nine runs per game. King battled out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth, striking out Jade Rhodes, the then-reigning SEC Player of the Week, to end the inning. The Parkland, Florida, native added another complete-game win on April 23 in a 3-1 victory over Virginia Tech. King allowed only faced five base runners for the entire game, scattering three hits and allowing just one run.

• Batted .750 (6-for-8) and recorded an .818 on-base percentage, with two home runs, a pair of doubles, six RBI and eight runs scored in wins over Michigan State and Maryland

• Tallied multiple hits in three games and scored a run in all four games
• The 2014-15 Academic All-Big Ten honoree earns her second Player of the Week award

• Posted a 0.43 ERA, striking out 10 batters and only allowing one earned run in 16.1 innings pitched
• Recorded a complete-game shutout win in the series opener over Ohio State, scattering four hits and fanning five batters
• Tallied three strikeouts in three innings of relief work in the second game at Ohio State, not allowing a single run
• The two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree wins her fifth career Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor and third this season

• Drove in the game-winning run with a two-run home run, helping the Boilermakers pick up the weekend-opening win at Ohio State

• Logged a 1.000 slugging percentage, driving in five runs, scoring twice, and hitting a double, a triple and a home run for the week

Sun Belt Softball

NEW ORLEANS – Texas State’s Randi Rupp and Georgia State’s Kensey Caldwell have been named the Community Coffee Pitcher and Student-Athlete of the Week, announced Monday.

Sophomore pitcher Randi Rupp has been named Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row. This is her third weekly honor this year.

She played a crucial part in Texas State’s Sun Belt Conference sweep over South Alabama this past weekend. In 24.2 innings pitched, including all 14 innings in Saturday’s doubleheader, Rupp struck out 29 batters while allowing just one earned run. She earned all three wins against South Alabama. In game one on Saturday, Rupp went head-to-head with the then-conference leader in strikeouts and won the battle 12 to 10. Against the second-ranked hitting team in the Sun Belt Conference, Rupp held South Alabama to just a .113 batting average with only seven hits allowed in 20.0 innings pitched.

After pitching the complete game in game one, Rupp started game two on Saturday and had a no-hitter going through the first six and a third. She allowed just one hit the entire game with eight strikeouts. On Sunday against the Jaguars, Rupp came in relief in the second inning with the bases loaded and no outs. She struck out the next three batters, allowing no runs to score. She finished the game with six innings pitched, seven strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Also in game one of the series against the Jaguars, Rupp had a Jaguar runner on third base twice with two outs and got out of each inning with a strikeout. With 12 strikeouts in game one, Rupp now has nine double-digit strikeout games this season. For the week, Rupp finished with a 0.28 ERA with the only earned run coming in game one against South Alabama. The earned run on Saturday was the first earned run given up by Rupp since Houston Baptist on April 6 (one earned run in eight games).

Rupp finished the week with a 3-1 overall record and improved her season record to 22-9. She lowered her ERA to a Sun Belt Conference-low 1.59. She now leads the conference in strikeouts with 263.
Texas State is now tied with Troy and Georgia State for fourth place in conference standings with a 9-9 record. The Bobcats will travel to Boone, North Carolina to take on App State in a weekend conference series.

Junior Kensey Caldwell has been named Community Coffee Student-Athlete of the Week. She is the second Panther in a row to receive the weekly nod.

Caldwell paved the way for GSU to take a weekend series from UT Arlington. Caldwell had an RBI and run scored in all three games, including a home run in Sunday finale. Caldwell began the week by breaking up a UGA no-hitter with a single. She then hit doubles in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against UTA. She finished the week hitting .615 (8-for-13) with six RBI, two doubles and a home run.

Big West Softball

A red hot Cal State Fullerton squad, winners of 13 straight games, provided this week’s softball award winners with Delynn Rippy and Sydney Golden leading the way.

Rippy Leads Titans To 4-0 Week

Buoyed by her first career collegiate home run, Cal State Fullerton junior Delynn Rippy (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS) notched Big West Softball Field Player of the Week accolades.

The outfielder batted .545 (6-for-11) to help the Titans to a 4-0 week, including a sweep at conference opponent Hawai‘i.  Rippy finished the week with seven RBIs and one run scored.

Rippy connected for her first collegiate home run in Friday’s 7-1 series-opening win against the Rainbow Wahine.  The fifth-inning three-run bomb preceded a pair of errors by the shortstop with two outs, and Rippy capitalized with a shot over the center field fence to give CSF a 3-0 lead.

She had a hit in another 7-1 victory in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader.  In the nightcap, she posted two more hits, including a fifth-inning RBI single that plated an insurance run in the Titans’ 2-0 victory that culminated the series sweep and gave CSF its 13th straight victory.

Rippy also had a huge performance in Tuesday’s 8-2 non-conference drubbing of San Diego, as she went 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Golden Picks Up Two Wins On The Islands

Cal State Fullerton Sydney Golden (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King HS) captured her first career Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week honor as she went 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA at Hawai‘i.

Golden improved to 16-3 on the year, including 6-0 in Big West play, limiting the Rainbow Wahine offense to just one run on 10 hits over 13.0 innings of work.

The right-hander tossed six innings with one run allowed in a 7-1 victory on Friday.  She did not walk a batter and struck out three while scattering six hits.

Golden hurled a four-hit complete game shutout in Saturday’s 2-0 triumph.  She issued just one walk and fanned two.  Golden lowered her team-best ERA to 1.63.  Against Big West opponents, Golden sports a minuscule 0.34 ERA with just two earned runs allowed in 41.0 innings of work.

CAA Softball

RICHMOND, Va. (April 25, 2016) – James Madison senior Jailyn Ford (Player of the Week), College of Charleston junior Samantha Martin (Pitcher of the Week), UNCW junior Peyton Jordan (Pitcher of the Week) and fellow Seahawk, Haley Lenderman (Rookie of the Week), were all honored as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) softball weekly award winners on Tuesday.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jailyn Ford • No. 6 James Madison
Sr. | P/UTIL | Hot Springs, Va./Bath County

Ford was a force over the weekend as the No. 6 Dukes swept Delaware in three games en route to clinching the CAA regular season title. The senior batted a near-perfect 6-for-7 (.857), collecting a double, two home runs, six runs scored, three RBI and three walks – also adding two intentional walks and three stolen bases along with being hit by one pitch. In each game played, Ford scored two runs and drove in one run. The series sweep was critical for Madison considering that UD entered the weekend in a tie for second-place in the CAA standings. In addition to her offensive contributions, the left-hander started Game 2 and struck out 10 over six frames despite earning the no-decision in a 6-5 win.

PITCHERS OF THE WEEK:
Samantha Martin • College of Charleston
Jr. | P | Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles

Martin proved her worth in the circle for the Cougars once again, helping her squad pick up wins in all three of her appearances, while the righty earned two wins and also picked up a save. CofC enjoyed a 4-1 week, opening things with a doubleheader sweep of Charleston Southern and following with a 2-1 series win against Towson. Martin picked up wins in Game 2 against CSU and Game 1 versus Towson, striking out 10 while not allowing a run. She grabbed the save in a 3-2 win over TU on Sunday, tossing 4.2 innings and giving up a two-run homer. Over the three starts, Martin was credited with a 0.95 ERA.

Peyton Jordan • UNCW
Jr. | P | Waxhaw, N.C./Marvin Ridge

Jordan played a large role in UNCW’s 3-1 week after not allowing a run in 15.2 innings of work. The righty went 1-0 and grabbed one save. She recorded a shutout in a win over Elon on Saturday with season-high eight strikeouts. In a 4-3 win at East Carolina, the righty scattered two hits in 1.2 innings to obtain the save. Jordan capped the week by throwing seven frames of scoreless relief in an eventual 15-inning victory over Elon to clinch the series win. The junior is the first UNCW hurler with 13 or more wins since 2006.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Haley Lenderman • UNCW
Fr. | P | Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester

Lenderman is the first UNCW player to win the Rookie of the Week award. Last week, the Michigan native posted a 1-1 record in the circle over three appearances to go along with a 1.75 ERA. She allowed a total of three runs in 12 innings and limited opponents to a .234 batting average. Lenderman started the week allowing no runs in 2.0 innings against ECU and finished the weekend strong, tossing 4.0 scoreless frames in the marathon win against Elon.

Conference USA Softball

C-USA CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
KARLEE JENSEN | LOUISIANA TECH | SO. | TAYLORSVILLE, UTAH

Jensen slugged her way to an award this week after leading the Lady Techsters to a 4-0 week, including a win over instate non-conference foe Louisiana-Monroe and a three game sweep of C-USA West rival North Texas. The sophomore recorded multi-hit performances in all four games, a feat last accomplished by a Lady Techster in 2013. Jensen racked up a .692 batting average with nine hits in 13 at bats, including four RBI, a double and a home run shot. To go along with her 1.000 slugging percentage, the Taylorsville, Utah, native led Louisiana Tech defensively with 11 assists and no errors on the week. On the year, Jensen currently leads the squad in batting average with a .380 tally. This is the sophomore’s first weekly award in her career.

MARY WARREN | UAB | JR. | OCOEE, FLORIDA
Warren continues to prove instrumental in UAB’s season turnaround, leading the Blazer lineup to a three-game sweep of UTEP on the road in El Paso to overtake the lead in the West Division. The junior notched two multi-hit and tow multi-RBI performances over the weekend, including a 3-for-4 day in game one of the series. With the Blazers down 2-1 in the top of the seventh, the junior came through in the clutch with a two-run blast, her second homerun of the weekend, to knock off the Miners and officially take control of the division. On the weekend, the Ocoee, Fla., native went 6-for-11 to lead the Blazers in batting average (.545), slugging (1.091) and on-base percentage (.583). In addition to a five RBI weekend, Warren extended her reached base streak to 22 consecutive games and her hit streak to 11 straight. This is junior’s second weekly award of the season and of her career, after earning the honor on March 14 earlier this season.

C-USA CO-PITCHERS OF THE WEEK
KYLEE HANSON | FLORIDA ATLANTIC | JR. | JUPITER, FLORIDA
Hanson, recently named to the ASA/USA Softball Top 25 Player of the Year Finalists list, added another stellar week to her canidacy, earning three more victories to bring her season record to 22-3, the fifth-best winning percentage in the nation. The junior proved pivotal in the cirlce in a matchup of the East Division’s top two teams over the weekend, tossing 15.0 innings against Charlotte without allowing a single earned run to lead No. 22 Florida Atlantic to clinch the East Division title. On the week, the Jupiter, Fla., native went 22.0 innings with 30 strikeouts and a 0.64 ERA, notching her 12th complete game shutout of the year. This is Hanson’s fifth weekly award of the season and ninth of her career.

JORDAN DIXON | MARSHALL | JR. | EDMOND, OKLAHOMA
Dixon, currently fourth in the nation with 243 strikeouts on the year, led Marshall to a crucial sweep of East Division foe Middle Tennessee over the weekend with three gutsy performances in the circle. On Saturday, the junior tossed two complete game, two-hit shutouts in the double-header victories, notching 10 strikeouts in game one and 12 in game two. The feat was the Herd’s first double-header shutout sweep since May 5, 2012 against UCF. On the weekend, the Edmond, Okla., native notched three victories to bring her record to 20-17, including 30 strikeouts, just nine hits allowed and a 0.37 ERA. Only a junior, Dixon currently ranks in the top ten (#7) in the NCAA on the active career strikeouts list with 796. This is Dixon’s second award this season and third of her overall career.

AAC Softball

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors, for the week ending April 24.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Astin Donovan • LF • So. • USF • Guilford, Conn.
Donovan has been named Player of the Week after posting a .636 average (7-for-11) and a .727 slugging percentage in four games. She recorded three multi-hit games over the weekend as No. 23/20 USF went 3-0 in a conference series against NR/RV Tulsa. The product of Guildford, Conn., also had one of the Bulls’ four hits in a nonconference contest against No. 1/1 Florida on Wednesday. Donovan hit a double and had eight total bases on the week, while scoring a run and adding a RBI. The sophomore also produced a 1.000 fielding percentage this week.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Shelby Turnier • P • Sr. • UCF • Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Turnier has earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the fourth time this season as she collected a pair of conference wins against Memphis, pushing her total to 74 career victories at UCF. The senior is now within four wins of the program’s career victories record (78). In 16.1 innings pitched over three games, the Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., native struck out 17 batters, while giving up 11 hits, four walks and three earned runs for a 1.29 ERA. Turnier’s 17 strikeouts on the weekend increased her season total to a league-best 204, and career total to 783.

Southern Conference Softball

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Criket Blanco and Samford’s Mollie Hanson have been named Southern Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played April 18-24, the league office announced Monday.

Blanco hit .500 (7-for-14) for the Mocs (26-22, 6-6 SoCon), who went 4-1 last week and earned a series win over Mercer. The senior second baseman recorded eight RBIs and eight runs, jacked three home runs and drew five walks across the five contests without recording a strikeout.

The Maryville, Tenn., native was extremely productive in the Mocs’ first two games of the week. In a 6-2 win at Tennessee Tech last Monday, she tallied three RBIs on a pair of homers and a double in three plate appearances. Blanco then posted a four-RBI effort in a 10-5 home win over Tennessee State two days later by recording two doubles in four at-bats. Her series against the Bears over the weekend was highlighted by a solo homer in the latter half of Saturday’s doubleheader. Blanco also registered a 1.000 fielding percentage for the week.

Hanson, a redshirt senior, compiled a 2-0 record and a 0.57 ERA in the span of 12 1/3 innings for first-place Samford (30-17, 10-2 SoCon). Her first appearance of the week was in game two of the Bulldogs’ sweep of Austin Peay last Wednesday. Hanson successfully nursed a 2-1 lead for two innings, striking out three while holding the Governors hitless en route to a 5-1 win. The Dothan, Ala.. product then tossed nine innings in an 8-1 defeat of Western Kentucky in the first half of Saturday’s twin bill. She totaled 11 strikeouts against only one walk in the contest, allowing only three hits and one run in the complete-game victory. Hanson concluded the week by providing an inning and a third of relief in the second half of the doubleheader against WKU.

Hanson, who is 17-8, leads the SoCon in wins and ranks in the top five in the conference in ERA and opposing batting average. This is her third pitcher of the week honor of the season.

Atlantic Sun Softball

MACON, Ga. – Emily Sanchez of Jacksonville and Holly McKinnon of USC Upstate dominated at the plate and circle respectively, leading their teams to weekend sweeps and the latest set of Atlantic Sun Softball weekly honors, announced Monday by the league office.

Sanchez was a reliable force at the plate for the Dolphins on a 4-1 week, recording a hit in each of the five contests played. The senior totaled seven RBIs on the week, including the game-winning two-RBI single in the eighth inning on the road at Stetson in game one. Sanchez boasted a slugging percentage of .500 and added three doubles to her credit, while maintaining a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on defense at first base.

McKinnon amassed a nearly perfect resume in the circle for the Spartans. The junior transfer pitched a total of 25 innings on the week in four games, compiling an ERA of 0.00, allowing just six hits and two walks while striking out 25 batters. In the series finale vs. Kennesaw State on Sunday, McKinnon threw an eight inning no-hitter as USC Upstate went on to win 1-0, while in game two the Ocala, Fla. native struck out nine in a relief outing. This marks the fourth A-Sun Pitcher of the Week honor this season for McKinnon.

DENVER – Missouri-Kansas City’s Kelsey Goodwin and Grand Canyon’s Taylor Nowlin have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 18-24. This is the first-ever honor for Goodwin and the third of the season and fifth of her career for Nowlin.

Goodwin, a sophomore infielder from Broken Arrow, Okla., hit .500 with four hits, all of which were extra-base hits (three doubles and a home run), four RBIs and one walk in a road sweep at Seattle U. She posted a 1.250 slugging percentage and .556 on-base percentage over the three games. Goodwin tied a season high with two RBIs on Friday, driving in two runs in both games of the doubleheader. In game one of the series, she tied a season high with six total bases with a double and a home run, each driving in a run in the 14-5 win. Goodwin entered the week hitting .269 with seven doubles and two home runs on the entire season.

Nowlin, a junior from Peoria, Ariz., went 2-0 with a save in three appearances last week. She finished the weekend with a 1.00 ERA, allowing two earned runs on 11 hits with 12 strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work. In the first game of the series, she threw a complete-game shutout, scattering five hits while striking out nine. In game two, Nowlin came in relief and clinched the team’s comeback by rendering the Wolverines scoreless over the final two innings to earn her fourth save of the year. In the series finale, she held Utah Valley to no hits and no runs for five straight innings before retiring.

MVC Softball

MVC Player of the Week
Cacy Williams, Senior, 1B, Platte City, Mo. – Wichita State
Williams helped lead the Shockers’ offense to a perfect 5-0 week, as she hit .643 in 14 at-bats and started all five games at first base. Williams collected nine hits, hitting three home runs and driving in seven runners while also scoring six runs herself. Her three home runs was enough to give her 36 in her career, setting a new Wichita State all-time record for home runs in a career. In game one against Missouri State, she had four hits in five at-bats, driving two runs in the Shockers 17-6 victory. In game two, she went two-for-two with two home runs. In the first game against Williams collected one hit in the first game at Drake and two in the third game to help sweep Drake and take over first place in the MVC.

MVC Pitcher of the Week
Taylor Lockwood, Senior, Indianapolis, Ind. – Indiana State
Senior Taylor Lockwood continued her comeback as she pitched her first career no hitter on Wednesday against Loyola before throwing her second shut out of the week on Saturday against Evansville. The senior threw 22.0 innings on the week with a 3-1 record, allowing just four earned runs with 17 strikeouts and just one walk with three complete games, including two shutouts. Lockwood missed the first 35 games of the 2016 season due to a non-softball related medical condition.

MVC Newcomer of the Week
Morgan Florey, Freshman, Pitcher, Peoria, Ill. – Evansville
Aces freshman Morgan Florey had another strong week in the circle as she picked up four victories while notching an ERA of 1.70 over 24 2/3 innings of work. She struck out 20 batters while walking just six. In what has been the best game of her young career at UE so far, Florey opened up Tuesday’s doubleheader at SIU with a complete game 1-hitter as the Purple Aces earned a 1-0 win. In game two against the Salukis, Florey went right back to work, entering the game in the third with the contest tied at 2-2. She threw the final 4.2 innings, giving up just three hits and striking out seven before the offense pushed the winning run across in the 6th. Florey threw another complete game in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Indiana State, going five innings while giving up two runs. On Sunday, she came in and threw four innings of relief once again as UE scored twice in the seventh to clinch the series. Her four wins this week brought her season win total to 15. At the plate, she hit .267 with a home run, four RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Big South Softball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Coastal Carolina outfielder Bri Chiusano (Mansfield, Mass.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Liberty freshman Julia DiMartino (Brockport, N.Y.) has been named The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played April 18-24, it was announced today by the conference office.

Chiusano posted multi-hit performances in five of the Chanticleers’ six contests last week, as she concluded the stretch 13-for-21 (.619) with nine runs scored and two RBI. The senior averaged .455 from the plate with five runs scored and a stolen base in Coastal’s series against Campbell. Against Gardner-Webb, Chiusano went 8-for-10 (.800) in that three-game set, including a double, four runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases.

DiMartino collected three complete game wins for the Lady Flames last week, surrendering just one earned run in 22.0 innings for a 0.32 ERA. Batters averaged .185 from the plate against her as she recorded 24 strikeouts. The freshman began her week with a 1-0 shutout of Virginia. She allowed just two hits on the road in the victory on Wednesday. DiMartino then aided the Liberty Flames to two wins over Charleston Southern with an eight inning shutout on Saturday and a 3-2 win on Sunday.

MAC Softball

MAC East Player of the Week:

Maddy Grimm had yet another monster week at the plate with a .500 batting average, 1.083 slugging percentage and .571 on-base percentage to go with 2 home runs and 5 runs scored. During Kent State’s weekend sweep of Buffalo, Grimm scored more runs (4) than the Bulls (3). She hit safely in the final 4 games of the week, and her first-inning solo shot in the finale vs. Buffalo put the Golden Flashes ahead for good. Grimm now has 15 home runs this season, which trails only her 19 long balls a season ago for the most in school history. She has hit 47 career home runs, which is one out of a tie for 3rd in MAC history.

MAC East Pitcher of the Week:
Savannah Jo Dorsey / Ohio / Pitcher

As she has done all year, Savannah Jo Dorsey led the Bobcats in the circle this past week, compiling a 2-1 record while registering a 0.53 ERA in five appearances. In 26.1 innings, Dorsey allowed four runs (two earned) on 13 hits all while striking out 37 batters. Opponents only hit .144 against Dorsey on the week.

Her biggest game of the week came on April 22 when against conference-leading Miami, Dorsey pitched a perfect game until two outs in the seventh inning. Overall, Dorsey allowed one runs on two hits and struck out 13 on the way to the 2-1 victory. Dorsey also picked up the victory on April 23 in the first game of the doubleheader, coming in relief, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on no hits and striking out five in the series-clinching 2-1 win.

Earlier in the week, Dorsey got the start against Ohio State, pitching seven innings and allowing one run on three hits and striking out eight.

MAC West Player of the Week:
Jessica Lemieux / Toledo / Outfield

Senior Jessica Lemieux continues to be Toledo’s top offensive threat this season and she played a crucial role in Toledo’s sweep over IPFW and Western Michigan. Lemieux had an outstanding week for the Rockets and started all five games as the lead off batter and at right field. She posted an impressive .611 (11-for-18) through their five games and recording two doubles, two triples, seven runs and an RBI. Lemieux totaled 17 bases and 10 putouts. She swiped five bags this past week, which brings her total to 27 on the season. In Toledo’s series with the Broncos, the senior posted a .545 average (6-for-11) and went 3-4 in stolen bases. After this week, Lemieux is on a six game hitting streak and a seven game reached base streak.

MAC West Pitcher of the Week:

Gooding picked up four wins in a big week for the Rockets in the MAC Standings. Gooding took down the MAC West leader WMU three times with a 0.40 ERA. Gooding threw 26.2 innings during the week and allowed just two earned runs while fanning eight batters. The Tigard, OR native had a minuscule 0.8250 WHIP while scattering 21 hits over the five outings.

A10 Softball

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Fordham sophomore Madison Shaw was named Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player of the Week Monday while Massachusetts sophomore Megan Colleran was selected as the league’s Softball Pitcher of the Week. George Mason freshman Marina Vitalich was named the conference’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were for games played April 18-24.

Shaw batted .625 (5-for-8) in the series against Rhode Island with four home runs, seven RBI, two walks and a stolen base, to go with five runs scored and a sacrifice fly. The sophomore from Raynham, Mass., hit a home run in each of the three games last week.

Colleran helped continue the recent hot streak for the Minutewomen, throwing in all five team games over the past week. The sophomore went 4-0 in the circle and only allowed two earned runs, good for a 0.62 ERA. The North Attleboro, Mass., native struck out 23 batters in 22.2 innings pitched and allowed just four walks over the week as the Minutewomen went a perfect 5-0.

Vitalich went 3-1 this week while only giving up three earned runs in 20 innings of work to go along with 32 strikeouts. In addition to her stellar pitcher performances, Vitalich went 3-13 with a pair of RBI in her first action at the plate this season. She hit a home run to tie the game at 3-3 in the series finale against La Salle. The San Pedro, Calif., native pitched 7.2 innings of relief in game one against La Salle before winning the final two games of the series.

Big East Softball

NEW YORK – Seton Hall’s Alexis Walkden was a terror at the plate for opposing teams, garnering BIG EAST Player of the Week honors for a second time in 2016, while St. John’s McKenzie Murray was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after leading the Red Storm to a series win over first-place DePaul, the conference announced Monday.

Walkden posted a .750 batting average across four games for the Pirates last week. In Seton Hall’s sweep of Providence, the sophomore batted .778 with four RBI, five runs, two doubles, a triple and a home run. For the week, she totaled seven runs, six RBI and two home runs along with a 1.583 slugging percentage.

BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
McKenzie Murray, St. John’s, So.
Murray came up huge in the circle for the Red Storm against first-place DePaul, allowing just one earned-run over 12 innings of work to hand the Blue Demons their first BIG EAST series loss of the season. The sophomore picked up the win in Game 2 after entering a tied contest in the fourth inning, limiting DePaul to two hits in an extra-innings victory. Murray would pitch all seven innings in the series finale, giving up four hits and one run in the 3-1 win. She finished the weekend with seven strikeouts and a 0.58 earned run average.

FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian freshman Miranda Herron was selected Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week while Nicholls senior Hannah Haydel was named pitcher of the week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.

Hitter of the Week – Miranda Herron, Abilene Christian
The freshman recorded a breakout week at the plate, hitting the first two home runs of her collegiate career and delivering a walk-off bases-clearing double against Sam Houston State to give the Wildcats its first series win over the Bearkats in three seasons. The Palmer, Texas (Waxahachie H.S.), native hit her first home run in ACU’s first ever victory over Texas Tech, blasting a solo shot over the wall in left field with two outs in the third inning. On Saturday, Herron went 3-for-3 in game one of the Sam Houston State doubleheader and reached base all five times. She hit a two-run home run in the third, was hit by a pitch and scored a run in the fifth, and with two-outs in the seventh, chopped a three-RBI double down the left field line to give the Wildcats a 9-8 win.

Pitcher of the Week – Hannah Haydel, Nicholls
Haydel dominated the mound as she went 3-0 with a save last week, highlighted by her first career no-hitter in Friday night’s opening 1-0 victory over Northwestern State. Facing one of the league’s top offenses, Haydel issued a free pass against the first batter and went on to retire 17 straight, helped by seven strikeouts.  In game two, the Ama, La. (Hahnville H.S.), native came in for relief and tossed three shutout innings, allowing just one hit and struck out four for the save. She then started in the series finale and fanned five in four innings to pick up her third win of the week as the Colonels swept a conference opponent for the fourth time this season. Haydel allowed just 13 hits in 21 innings to improve her league-best opponent batting average to .196 as she continues to lead the Southland in ERA at 1.46.

Big Sky Softball

OGDEN, Utah (April 25, 2016) – Montana’s Delene Colburn picked up this week’s Big Sky Conference Player of the Week honors after leading the Grizzlies to two important wins in conference play. Idaho State’s Ashlyn Ames earned this week’s Big Sky Pitcher of the Week after picking up a win over the league’s leader.

Ames, a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., picked up a seven-inning win over league-leader Sacramento State on Friday. Ames allowed just three earned runs while striking out three Hornets on the way to her ninth win of the season. The Hornets hit just .192 off of the Bengals starter in the game two win. The win clinched the series for ISU, who now sits in third place in the conference standings with an 8-5 mark.

For the year, the sophomore holds a 3.51 ERA, which is a team best.

Colburn, a sophomore shortstop from Auburn, Wash., had a huge offensive weekend as the Grizzlies took two games from Southern Utah in Cedar City, Utah. Colburn hit two homeruns and drove in five RBIs in the Grizzlies’ record-setting 14-13 comeback win in the series opener. She blasted another homer in game two and finished the weekend with seven total runs scored, three homers and seven RBIs.

For the season, Colburn is hitting .321 and is tied for fourth in the conference with seven homeruns.

This is the first weekly honor for both Ames and Colburn this season.

NEC Softball

NEC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Seneca, Saint Francis U

Now a three-time NEC Player of the Week, Seneca put up some huge numbers over six games, hitting .500 with five home runs, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored. The sophomore also recorded a 1.500 slugging percentage and .636 on-base percentage to help the Red Flash to a 5-1 week. Seneca started her week going 2-for-3 with her first dinger of the week in the opening game against Bucknell and followed that with a grand slam in the nightcap. She would go on to homer in five straight games, including three against league rivals. The Plum, PA product belted two of SFU’s 12 home runs in its sweep over Bryant on Saturday. Her blast in game two was one of five in the opening inning, tying the NCAA Division I record for home runs in a frame. With one more dinger in a sweep of Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday, she lifted her season total to 15, breaking the SFU single-season record previously held by Jamie Krusinky in 2000. She leads the NEC with 53 RBIs and 33 walks, ranks second in homers (16) and runs scored (45), and third in slugging percentage (.773) and on-base percentage (.483).

NEC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

DeVries earns her third NEC Pitcher of the Week honor after not allowing an earned run in her four appearances over the course of last week. DeVries went 4-0, including three starts and two complete game efforts. The junior allowed 11 hits in 18.2 innings while fanning 17 batters. In an 8-0 win over the Mount on Sunday, DeVries tossed five shutout innings for the complete game, allowing three singles while fanning four. In the nightcap against the Mountaineers, the Forreston, IL native helped the Red Flash come back from a six-run deficit as she registered 3.2 shutout innings in relief, allowed just one hit while striking out four. DeVries currently leads the NEC with five shutouts. She ranks second in wins (12-3 on the year) and ERA (2.32) and fourth in strikeouts (102).

NEC SOFTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Hayley Norton, Saint Francis U

Norton, a six-time NEC Rookie of the Week, earns the accolade yet again after hitting .412 with two doubles, four homers, eight RBIs and nine runs scored over the course of a 5-1 week for SFU. Norton also finished with a 1.235 slugging percentage to go along with a .545 on-base percentage. In the opener of the Red Flash’s sweep over Bryant on Saturday, the freshman drove in three runs and blasted two of SFU’s seven home runs in the first two innings. The Spring Grove product’s second homer gave her 46 RBIs, breaking a 19-year old SFU single-season RBI record set by Autumn Helsel back in 1997. Norton also hit one of five homers in the first inning of game two against Bryant to help the Flash match the NCAA Division I record for home runs in an inning. Norton, a finalist for the NFCA Division I Rookie of the Year award, paces the NEC with 13 doubles and 116 total bases, and ranks second in on-base percentage (.484), slugging percentage (.773), RBIs (52) and hits (55), and third in homers (14), runs scored (42) and walks (26).

Player of the Week

Elena Bowman, Manhattan

Sr., C, 5-8, San Mateo, CA/Aragon

Bowman hit .455 in six games last week.  After being walked five times in the first game of a doubleheader at Columbia on Wednesday, she hit her 50th career home run in the nightcap, becoming just the second player in MAAC history to reach that milestone.  Bowman then went a combined 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the doubleheader with Niagara on Saturday.  On Sunday, her 51st homer, a three-run shot, gave the Jaspers a 3-2 lead in an eventual 11-4 victory over Canisius in the second game of a twinbill.  In the six games, she had five hits, including the two home runs, while being walked 13 times.  Bowman slugged 1.000 and had an on-base percentage of .750 with six runs scored and five RBIs, as the Jaspers went 3-3.

Pitcher of the Week

Lauren Falkanger, Fairfield

Sr., P, 5-7, Bloomington, MN/Jefferson

Falkanger posted a pair of wins in MAAC play last week, defeating Saint Peter’s and Quinnipiac. The senior tossed a one-hit shutout over five innings while fanning eight and walking just one in an 8-0 win over Saint Peter’s. She came back and hurled eight innings in a 2-1 victory against Quinnipiac. Once again, she allowed just one hit in the game, striking out seven and walking two. For the week, Falkanger owned a 0.53 ERA and struck out 15 hitters in 13 innings of work.

Rookie of the Week

Destiny Holani, Canisius

Fr., C, 5-4, Honolulu, Hawaii/Roosevelt

Canisius freshman Destiny Holani hit .545 (6-for-11) with two doubles, five runs scored and four RBI last week in four MAAC road games at Saint Peter’s and Manhattan. In the Griffs’ 8-3 win over the Peacocks April 23, the Honolulu, Hawaii, native went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and a career-high three runs batted in, and she followed that effort with two hits, a run scored and an RBI in the team’s 3-1 win at Manhattan April 24. In a week where she drew two walks, she posted a .615 on-base percentage and a .727 slugging percentage and she was credited with 18 defensive putouts and two fielding assists from her catching position as well.

MEAC Softball

NORFOLK, Va. Delaware State’s Sandy Hawthorne was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Savannah State’s Amanda Hallman earned Pitcher of the Week, while Hope Sobelewski , of Hampton, was named Rookie of the Week.

Hawthorne (C, 5-7, Sr., Smithtown, N.Y.) recorded a .583 batting average in a three-game sweep of Howard. She finished with seven hits, including one home run, one double and one triple, with four runs scored and nine RBIs. Defensively, she added 18 putouts in the series.

Sobelewski (OF, 5-8, Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif.) went 8-for-13 in a three-game sweep of Coppin State. She registered seven runs, one home run, five doubles, one triple, 11 RBIs and one walk in the series.

Hallman (P, 5-8, Jr., Kennesaw, Ga.) posted a 0.00 ERA in two wins over North Carolina A&T State. She fanned 12 strikeouts in both games.
