Club Spotlight: RI Aftershock 18U
The Rhode Island Aftershock have had an outstanding team legacy for a decade now, thanks to their coaching staff. The coaches are volunteers, help their team compete in the highest level of competition, and give them the resources to play at the next level. Setting up their girls up for future success, Coach Steven Day thinks “these girls are awesome players and more importantly awesome people.” The Aftershock claim girls from Rhode Island, but they have added athletes from surrounding states as well. This New England team plays year-round and “pride themselves on teaching the importance of the game, teamwork, a strong work ethic, and the value of a great attitude.” As the 2017 Rhode Island State ASA Champs, they look to add some titles this club season.

The Aftershock of Rhode Island has a mix of the State Champion veterans, getting ready to play in their first year of college. Infielders Haley Wellman (Charibo HS), Kenzie Palmer (Rogers HS), Shea Milburn (Rogers HS), and Skylar Burns of Connecticut (Tolland HS) are their “youngsters” who have all had strong high school seasons. Also adding to the team’s value are utility players Ayla Newsome (Rogers HS) and Caitlin McCarthy of Massachusetts (Dighton-Rehobeth HS). These “fast, intelligent, and hard-working” girls are coming into the 2018 club season determined to win. As their coach says, “71% of the earth is covered by water, the other 29% is covered by the RI Aftershock Outfield (Civetti, Doyle, and Gooding).”
