Akron Racers bests Chicago Bandits 4-3 thanks to a RBI single by Jessica Garcia

A single, bringing home Taylor Schlopy gave Akron Racers the lead in the eighth inning, and Akron Racers hung on to beat Chicago Bandits 4-3 on Sunday.

Kelley Montalvo racked up three RBIs on one hit for Akron Racers. She homered in the first inning.

Tammy Williams had two extra-base hits for Chicago Bandits. She doubled in the second inning, homered in the sixth inning, and singled in the eighth inning.

Alison Owen recorded the win for Akron Racers. She allowed three runs over eight innings. Owen struck out one, walked one and gave up 11 hits.

Monica Abbott was the game’s losing pitcher. She lasted just eight innings, walked five, struck out 12, and allowed four runs.

Akron Racers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. A three-run home run by Montalvo, scoring Brianna Cherry and Nerissa Myers started the inning off.

Akron Racers never surrendered the lead after the eighth inning, scoring one run on an RBI single by Garcia.
