Chicago Bandits defeats Akron Racers 8-5

Chicago Bandits beat Akron Racers 8-5 in seven innings on Friday at Rosemont, IL behind Tammy Williams, who had two extra base hits.

She doubled in the first inning and homered in the third inning.

Sara Moulton looked sharp in the circle. Akron Racers managed just two hits off of the Chicago Bandits’ pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during her three innings of work.

It was a good day at the plate for Akron Racers’ Jennifer Gilbert. Gilbert went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run. She homered in the seventh inning.

Hannah Campbell lasted two innings on the rubber for Akron Racers before being replaced. Campbell surrendered six hits and five runs.

Chicago Bandits’ Brittany Cervantes, Williams and Danielle Zymkowitz combined for six hits and seven RBIs.

Chicago Bandits never trailed after scoring three runs in the first on an RBI double by Williams and a two-run single by Cervantes.

After pushing across two runs in the top of the second, Akron Racers faced just a 3-1 deficit. An RBI double by Jill Barrett gave Akron Racers life. Chicago Bandits stopped the rally after Andrea Williamson got Nerissa Myers to ground out.

After posting one run in the second, Chicago Bandits again scored one in the sixth. In the second, Chicago Bandits scored on an RBI single by Emily Allard, plating Kaylyn Castillo.

Chicago Bandits built upon its lead with three runs in the third. Cervantes started the inning with a double, scoring Jessica Bracamonte. That was followed up by Williams’ two-run blast, bringing home Cervantes.

Two runs in the top of the sixth helped Akron Racers close its deficit to 7-3. A two-run single by Myers fueled Akron Racers’ comeback. Finally, Estela Pinon got Nadia Taylor to to end the threat.

One run in the top of the seventh helped Akron Racers close its deficit to 8-4. A solo home run by Gilbert sparked Akron Racers’ rally. Chicago Bandits closed the game out when Kirsten Verdun got Ayumi Karino to ground out.
